The reason our giant, broken dinosaur of a television sat in our driveway for months on end was not because we wanted to work the white trash chic aesthetic into our cute Capitol Hill residence. No, it sat there because we are cheap and lazy. It's a lethal combination. But the launch of the state's new free electronics recycling program, E-Cycle Washington, on January 1 meant we could no longer use our selectively mean nature to excuse the hulk of an appliance taking up space next to our almost-as-broken Ford Taurus. "When are you going to take that thing to the recycling place?" our housemate began to ask on a weekly basis. "Tomorrow!" we would chirp in reply, and then fail to take it when we said we would.

Birthdays, anniversaries, promotions, and celebrations alike have at least one cool thing in common: cake. In this instance, it’s cupcakes. Recently, we celebrated a birthday, and the cupcakes (specifically the frosting) were too good not to share them with you! Our sister-in-law, the pastry chef extraordinaire, was the mastermind behind the dessert. She concocted the frosting and was willing to let everyone in on her secrets. She knows how to play with a recipe to make it just right. Make this frosting at the next social gathering, and you might find yourself on the Martha Stewart Show too!

It's Earth Day. Down here in the Seattlest news room we thought that, along with giving up meat, disposable coffee cups and plastic bags, we'd offer some unsolicited advice about how you can help the planet the other 364 days of the year, too. But, when a friend who happens to be a real live Seattle native and an inveterate bike commuter approached us with a better idea abut spreading the gospel of bike commuting, we figured why not let Dayna do it for us?
