SUPPORT HONK!: HONK! Fest West is a free, non-profit, and community supported music festival devoted to marching bands, drum corps, samba lines, and the like. This year will be HONK!'s fourth, and even though the Festival isn't until May, the work has already begun to raise the necessary funds to cover permits, venue rentals, food for the musicians and volunteers, travel costs, and all the other line-item details that come with putting on a music festival. Not only can you contribute to their Kickstarter, but you can attend their first fundraiser this Saturday with performances by: VamoLà, Tubaluba, Bucharest Drinking Team, The Garfield High School Drumline, and Orkestar Zirkonium. MAGMA FESTIVAL: Hollow Earth Radio's annual MAGMA Festival continues into its second weekend with two fabulous shows you would do well to attend. First up, Washington Hall hosts The Hive Dwellers, NighTraiN, Militant Child, and Alex Miranda for an evening of delight wrapped in a hardwood shell. Then Saturday brings a swell line-up of the emotionally minded and sweetly deranged with Broken Water, Kunt Kuntroll, and Santee at the mysterious Healthy Times Fun Club. If you're wondering where it is, wander around Capitol Hill until you see the group of wild-haired mystics carrying dowsing rods and sweatbands and follow them. Friday 8:00 p.m. // Washington Hall // $9 Saturday 9:00 p.m. // Healthy Times Fun Club // Donations Accepted more ›

MAGMA FESTIVAL: Hollow Earth Radio's annual MAGMA Festival kicks off today with a bang heard round the world. Which is not that hard to do, when you consider how little a reverbation will attenuate around a tectonic shell. But we digress! Tonight, Vera Project welcomes Spurm, Kristin Allen-Zito, and Pwrfl Power, among others. Then, on Saturday, MAGMA will commandeer a Light Rail Train, putting Toy Boats, Jordan O’Jordan, Walrus Machine, and The Beaconettes in front of transit customers, and inviting them to walk along to the afterparty at Radar Hair and Records featuring Ya Ho Wa 33. And if that wasn't enough, on Sunday, Magma covers Beck's classic One Foot in the Grave with performances by, but not limited to, Pica Beats, Cock & Swan, and 1985. Whew! This is only the first week, too. Better pace ourselves. Friday 8:00 p.m. // Vera Project // $9 with club card / $10 without Saturday 5:30 p.m. // International District Light Rail Station // Free music, pay transit fare before boarding Saturday 8:00 p.m. // Radar Hair and Records //$8-$20 sliding scale Sunday 7:00 p.m. // Hollow Earth Radio // $5 more ›

DICK DALE: 72 years old and still going strong, Dick Dale continues to ride the wave that made him a star. Arguable inventor of the classic surf sound, Dale was also a collaborator with Leo Fender, pushing guitar amps out of their clean and quiet beginnings up into 11. He is justifiably a legend. A very loud legend. more ›
