Seattlest has always felt odd using the listening stations in music stores. We love 'em and--the purchased and downloaded ringtones of strangers on the bus not withstanding--still feel that they're the best way to check out new music. It's just kind of weird rocking out in a store with the cans on while other people around you browse the shelves, blissfully unaware of the epiphany you're having, or that in some small but significant......

We've already mentioned this weekend's Pyramid Alehouse Snowed In Party, featuring the Presidents of the USA (tonight) and the Dandy Warhols (tomorrow). Tonight, there's also Black Dice bringing their wall o' noise to the Vera Project. A lot of shows tomorrow night, starting with MTV-buzzworthy Minus the Bear, along with Helio Sequence and Grand Archives, at the Showbox. There's also Seattlest's favorite kick-ass female foursome the Trucks at the High Dive, and the lush pop-folk......

Last year's Sasquatch line up was good, but not good enough to get us to spend three days at the Gorge. We still prefer the festival in its one-day, all-in-one-fell-swoop form, but with the lineup that's been announced for this year's two-day fest, we may just have to make the trip. Out of the two days, it was Saturday that really made us coo. Bjork *and* Arcade Fire? Consider us sold. There are still......

Seattlest saw three accomplished bands perform at the Paradox last Friday. Even though we were a little out of it from the usual double-shifts at the multiple day jobs, we can still testify that all the usual stuff you've read about the Silversun Pickups, Crystal Skulls and Helio Sequence remains true as of this writing - except all that stuff you've heard about Brian Aubert sounding like Billy Corgan is not actually true; his......

Fresh from his quarter-hour of fame as a food blogger, Ronald is preparing a giant Spanish torta for a neighborhood party in Belltown. He plans to stalk chef Kerry Sear's cooking class at Cascadia on Saturday morning. On Sunday, he'll make is way into SoDo territory where wine writer/wine merchant Rich Kinssies promises to roast a pig and pour samples of Spanish reds at The Wine Outlet . We hope it goes well with the......

The dust on the paper lanterns is three years old this week at Chop Suey and the occasion will, of course, be celebrated. Sub Pop artist and Seattlest fav Helio Sequence has been bought and paid for by KEXP and The Stranger so the show Wednesday is free in honor of the anniversary. Seattlest isn't particularly fond of free events because there's no way to call ahead and buy our way onto a list. To......

Your inner 13-year-old is going to have the time of its life on Thursday. Seattlest is offering to you a nerd license for March 3, 2005. Use it wisely. "The Persistence of Frankenstein: Art, Science and Creation" is going to take you all the way back to what most people consider the very beginnings of the science fiction genre, but will then proceed to explain why Mary Shelley's classic is more relevant today than......
