Seriously, we like avocados. They're smooth and delicious, not nearly as hard to enjoy as, say, artichoke hearts. Without avocados, there'd be no guacamole. But what, pray tell, is that thing advertised on KING FM, the "hand-grown" California avocado? Does a farmer really stand under the tree all day, holding the fruit? Do Americans really need to feel that coddled?

Seattlest was thrilled yesterday when we went to our local store and saw beautiful ripe red Roma tomatoes again. Turns out the tomatoes were neither killer nor the cause of a nation-wide salmonella outbreak. The current guess of the sickening culprit? Fresh jalapenos. According to breaking news banners on websites from King5 to CNN--industry sources have found the salmonella bacteria on fresh jalapenos imported from Mexico. Looks like it's time for Seattlest to trade in the spicy guacamole with fresh jalapenos we've been making for a fresh summer bruschetta.

The Tour de France is underway; combined with the 4th of July weekend, it seemed like a great time to check out Chipotle’s Le Burrito. Seattlest has already documented Chipotle’s spread in Seattle and involvement with the Tour de France in sponsoring Team Garmin-Chipotle—which includes local cyclist Tyler Farrar.

Okay, so it’s not the first in the area, and there are nearly 700 others in the country, but Chipotle is opening at Southcenter Square—today!

Now that the weather is finally get warmer, it's time to plan some summertime drinking. Enter The Saint, the new tequila bar/Mexican cantina from Havana owner Quentin Ertel. What was once the ugly (and scary) Wing Dome behemoth is now the soothingly sky blue building at the corner of Olive and Bellevue. Ertel describes his latest social club as:

a tequila bar that would appeal to afficionados of the good life; a place where the grapefruit juice is always squeezed fresh and the pace is a little slower; where the cocktails are built from a library of fine tequilas; where the cocina bustles with cooks making food from scratch. A place where a little bit of extra love goes into everything, an homage to the time-honored process of making one of the finest spirits on earth.
