The Emerald City ComiCon is this weekend (!!), so graphic novel and comic book enthusiasts of all stripes will be gathering at the Convention Center downtown to celebrate their passion. The Times just leaked that an intriguing announcement will be made there this weekend: the son of the man who arrested the Green River Killer is working on a 120-page graphic novelization of the dramatic story to be published by Dark Horse Comics sometime next year. The Pacific Northwest has a dark fascination with the saga, so we won't be surprised if it sells well. Still...weird.

Maybe you're sick of the back-and-forth of political debates, where nothing substantive is actually said and everything boils down to the repetition of key drinking words ("maverick," "my friends," and "the Bush administration"). But just in case you're not yet fully revolted by the process, there's a debate tonight today in Bellevue between Dave Reichert and Darcy Burner--the two candidates head-to-head in a rematch for the 8th Congressional District seat. This is the first debate between the candidates in this go-round, and it will hopefully be shown eventually on local public access TV. If and when it is televised, Washington voters, your drinking words are: "Green River killer" and "net-roots."

The 8th congressional district lost five-term Congresswoman Jennifer Dunn and candidate Rodney Tom in the last twenty-four hours.

If the voting public of the United States had gotten a chance to vote directly against Donald Rumsfeld last night, it would have been a landslide on the order of Seattle Initiative 91. Doesn't matter who the other guy was. It could have been Gary Ridgeway, the Green River Killer himself, or Mike McGavick even, getting sworn into office in January. We can dispense with all that, though, because all the Democratic voting for State legislatures, Federal legislatures, governors, etc, etc, apparently got through; pierced Bush's bubble. Rumsfeld resigned today and he's stepping down to be replaced by former CIA head Robert Gates. See ya.

We're hoping this isn't a Green River Killer type of town, despite, you know, the Green River Killer. We also hope it's not an organized crime kind of place where if your envelope comes in a little short for too many weeks in a row, whoops, they find your skull at Interlaken Park a few years later.

First were the crimes, then came the books. Inevitably, on January 3, comes the movie. Sure, it was just a matter of time, but there's also a matter of taste.
