- Monica Guzman over at the P-I's Big Blog published an un-cut transcript of the story Denise Gloster told her about why she chose to get involved with her community in the Rainier Valley. The story is powerful and heart-wrenching, well worth your ten minutes to read it closely.
- Whoa, since when do elementary schools in Seattle auction off fancy Palm Springs condos and offer pine-nut crusted salmon as part of their fund-raising dinner menu? West Seattle Blog says Schmitz Park Elementary is doing just that to net money for the school's core programs.
- Shauna, the Seattle-based new mother and food writer over at Gluten Free Girl, has crafted a sensible list of must-have pantry items in response to Mark Bittman's controversial compilation on the same topic. Beans, onions, vinegar--sounds just like our pantry!
Neighborhood News And Local Blog Round-Up
Zioncheck Goes Hollywood
Ex-Seattleite, ex-Stranger-nic and ex-grassroots campaign manager Phil Campbell wrote a book that we loved about Grant Cogswell's run for City Council in the wake of WTO. The book is Zioncheck for President, which we've discussed with Phil in the past. Now Stephen Gyllenhaal has bought the rights to the film adaptation and plans to produce the thing DIY style here in Seattle.
All The News
--There's a wind advisory in effect for tonight. Good thing you haven't even lugged the generator back into storage yet.
Exeunt, Chased By A Polar Bear...And Cut!
Frank Hayes (no, not that Frank Hayes) is a solo dance work from Amelia Reeber featuring a foggy arctic landscape, a person rowing a small boat, and a polar bear. Local noTORIety
How can you mention Tori Spelling's new show noTORIous in a Seattle newspaper and not mention the fact that an indie movie she's involved with just finished shooting in Seattle? Alright, admittedly the movie has been flying way way below the radar of the MSM in Seattle since its inception and we're not sure if that's by design or not, but we've seen the trailer and it looks like it's going to rock. It's got Lovecraft, it's got Seattle and Pac NW coast, it's got Grant Cogswell screenwriting, it's got Tori fucking Spelling in it. What's it take to get a movie press up in here? Because if Tori fucking Spelling is not going to be enough we don't know what will.
Seattlest Interviews: The People's Waterfront Coalition
Ok, this is a friendly interview, yes, and pretty straightforward. The People's Waterfront Coalition has a pretty straightforward approach to our problems downtown, though, and we wanted to give them an opportunity to talk.

They'll be in Goonie Country on the 22nd.
Phil Campbell Still Wants Us To Talk About Race In Seattle
Past Seattlest interviewee Phil Campbell wrote an opinion piece for the Seattle Times this week on the subject of race relations in Seattle. Not really a subject which Seattlest has spent a lot of time on previously, and that's exactly the point of his article: It's not really a subject that any publication in Seattle devotes a lot of time to.
