Can't Miss It: Thursday

ZIPCAR OPEN HOUSE: Drop in at the grand opening of an actual downtown office for Zipcar--in the old Dept. of Licensing location at 3rd and Union. The open house runs until 5 p.m., and if you stop in and join Zipcar today, there's no annual fee for your first year. We're told there's also a prize wheel where you can win driving credits and other goodies, plus free snacks. We use the Zipcar ourselves, and we're happy to hear that the City of Seattle is joining them in a car-sharing arrangement for city employees.

It's Free Espresso Week in Seattle or something. On 15th Ave East, you've got nightspot Liberty trying to lure daysippers with an offer of free espresso drinks all week long (ends Sunday). We refer you to the Slog for all the details, the one per day per customer, the Stumptown beans (Portland rabble!). Liberty has tried to open its daytime cafe doors before, but to our eye business was just dribbling in. Maybe the free caffeine will be a shot in the arm.

It's Mother's Day weekend. Some people say we should remember our mothers all year-round, not just on a single day. But we do! With yo momma jokes! Seattlest contributors share their favorites, along with their plans for enforced family togetherness.

Thanks to local bean fiend tonx, Seattlest was alerted to the "soft" opening of Espresso Vivace's new espresso palace, across the street from REI on Yale Avenue North. From the new Vivace cafe, you can peer into the verdant foliage in front of REI. Camping gear mecca, meet espresso mecca. The Grand Opening is April 18.

Seattlest may not be convinced that there's any good reason to leave our fair city -- but at least we can rest assured that we've got a modern and easy-to-use airport to assist us in our travels when necessary.

They have shows booked in February but there's no one home right now. What gives at Graceland? For starters, it's not Graceland anymore. Well, the website at www.gracelandseattle.com still says it is Graceland. But wait, what about the website at www.elcorazonseattle.com? Whoa. That says Graceland as well.
