Preview: Ghostland Observatory

Electro-rock duo Ghostland Observatory is no stranger to Seattle, having visited our city on a near yearly basis. Last November, they played two nights in a row at the Showbox SoDo, and this Saturday, they'll be back for more. The duo from Austin, Texas released their fourth album, Codename: Rondo, last October, and recently performed at Coachella. They are now in the middle of a May tour through random U.S. cities that will end May 20 in Missoula, MT, before a touring hiatus. more ›

Weekend Music

Head to the Showbox this weekend for Ghostland Observatory tonight and tomorrow night. We've seen the Austin duo thrice before, and we can guarantee their yelpy dance-rock is much better live than in the recorded form (and much better in a packed and sweaty room like the Showbox than a spacious outdoor venue). more ›

Enter to Win Live at KEXP Volume 3

Tomorrow Live at KEXP Volume Three is available for purchase online and at music stores around town. Seattlest Jack has already given his play-by-play of the album. It seems that he's partial to Ghostland Observatory's "Move with Your Lover" and Lady Sovereign's "Public Warning," while we have always been a sucker for the lilting live version of Grizzly Bear's "Knife." more ›

Live at KEXP Volume Three

Live at KEXP Volume Three

Rob Gordon once said, "The making of a great compilation tape, like breaking up, is hard to do and takes ages longer than it might seem. You gotta kick off with a killer, to grab attention. Then you got to take it up a notch, but you don't wanna blow your wad, so then you got to cool it off a notch. There are a lot of rules." more ›

One Beast of a Show

One Beast of a Show

For once, it was actually nice weather at the Gorge for Sasquatch. Last year was all sturm und drang and the year previous was approximately the temperature of the sun, but the gods smiled down on all gathered in George, Washington yesterday afternoon, as it was a pleasant 80 degrees under partly cloudy skies. more ›

Sasquatch Line Up Results in Creamed Panties

Sasquatch Line Up Results in Creamed Panties

Last year's Sasquatch line up was good, but not good enough to get us to spend three days at the Gorge. We still prefer the festival in its one-day, all-in-one-fell-swoop form, but with the lineup that's been announced for this year's two-day fest, we may just have to make the trip. Out of the two days, it was Saturday that really made us coo. Bjork *and* Arcade Fire? Consider us sold. There are still bands to be announced, but here's how things stand as of right now: more ›

KEXP Yule Benefit, Day 1

KEXP Yule Benefit, Day 1

Last night at Neumo's, the 4th annual KEXP Yule Benefit was chockablock with music. We missed out on local band The Hands and showed up mid-set for Annuals, for whom we saw enough of their Arcade Fire-meets-Neutral Milk Hotel-meets Animal Collective sound to know that we need to see them in their entirety whenever they come to town again. more ›

Ghostland, Observed

Ghostland, Observed

The fourth annual KEXP BBQ took place on a day that couldn't have been much prettier. Not a cloud in the sky, so Seattlest was diligent about applying tons o' sunblock and sticking to the shade. This year, the event was all ages, meaning that the area in front of the stage was divided into drunk and sober sections, and the audience featured a lot of cute wittle babies. We witnessed a grand total of four breast-feeding sessions, which we found to be unnatural and borderline obscene. more ›
