The worst thing about the headline "6 injured in overnight shootings" is that it doesn't take into account a murder at a Ballard gas station. Just to recap, over this weekend, a man was shot in the leg following an argument at Second and Pine (while the Torchlight Parade was going on), two people were shot at 1 a.m. at 208th and Pacific Highway South in SeaTac, and three men were shot at about 2 a.m. at the 1200 block of Westlake Avenue North. Then at around 6:30 a.m. Sunday came the gas station robbery and homicide.

Lights & Sirens, Tacoma News Tribune's crime blog, reported this morning that a 68-year-old Lakewood man was killed by his own van at a gas station late last night when the vehicle rolled forward, knocked him down in front of the van, and pinned him under the wheels. According to Lights & Sirens, "the man's death is being investigated as accidental" and "investigators will be checking over the van to see if a mechanical failure prompted it to roll over the man" (as opposed to...malicious intent on the part of the vehicle?). What a brutal, random way to go.

The 76 gas station at the north end of Broadway is under a heavy lockdown at the moment--all the roads around, including Broadway, are blocked off. We heard from a guy directing traffic in a reflective orange vest--and therefore a quotable source--that someone ran over a pump. One of the FedEx Kinkos employees taking an enforced sunbreak on the curb told us that something had actually caught fire over there. ("Fire in building," says the Seattle 911 log.) There were a number of ambulances with people gathered around, but we're not sure if anyone was seriously hurt.
