Today Seattlest welcomes our new sports correspondent to the fold. Drew Milam is a longtime Seattle resident who recently returned to the Emerald City after some time in the Bay Area, and claims to be super tight with fellow Santa Clara alum Steve Nash, Brandi Chastain and NFL referee Mike Carey. No word on if he got the gig because he is a Hillary supporter (pleasing Editor Kim) and a Garfield alum (pleasing Seattlest David).......

Last week we were taking Husky football with a friend who was upset that the University hadn't fired coach Ty Willingham. We mentioned that, though he hadn't won many games, Willingham had restored integrity to the football program. She was unmoved. "The university does a lot of good," she said. "The football team's job is to win games." But now our friend has read the Seattle Times' stomach-turning series about the alleged rape, attempted murder,......

When we lived in LA we had no problem watching the Huskies play at Pauley Pavilion. We could just get in our car, hop on the 10, and presto, eight hours later we were in the building. The first time we went, in 2003, the Dawgs needed to win in order to have a chance at the eighth seed in the Pac 10 Tournament. The last time we went in 2005 the fans were chanting......

Both the Seattle Times and Fox Sports report he'll sign a five-year extension on Friday. Fox says the deal's worth between $75-$90 million, the Times says it will "approach $100 million." ICH-I-RO!......

Seattlest decided to check out the new Tap House Grill yesterday evening. They opened earlier this week in the old Planet Hollywood location right next to Fox Sports Grill, on 6th Ave. between Pike and Pine. No matter what you think about the place, they do have an impressive amount of beer. The wall behind the bar is lined with 160 taps. They offer a solid selection of local beers mixed with offerings from......

Say this for new Sonics owner Clay Bennett--he knows shitty basketball when he sees it. And he's replacing the men most responsible for bringing it to you, GM Rick Sund and coach Bob Hill. Hill ends his Sonics tenure with a 53-81 career record--worst for any coach who lasted at least a full season since Al Bianchi, who can be excused since he was coaching an expansion team. We hope this gives some small measure......

For our headline, we borrow the words of that magnificent artisan of the English language, Fox Sports Northwest's Brad Adam. Could anyone sum up Felix Hernandez' breathtaking, complete game shutout, no-hit-thru-seven-innings performance last night any better? Probably not, but let's take a look-see. "He threw me a pitch my last at-bat, I'm not kidding you, it moved about 6 feet and it was a 95-mile-an-hour sinker. I mean, what can you do?" -- 2B......

More snow--today's games are postponed. they'll play a doubleheader on Sunday, and try to make the third game up during an off day later in the season. Geoff Baker reports that a Cleveland paper described Hargrove's heroics last night thusly: "Hargrove pulled an invisible rabbit from his cap and somehow persuaded the umpires to feed it carrots." In other news: --Oregon State isn't OSU anymore, they are OS. It's an attempt to trick recruits into......

Sometimes we feel that we are taking our home town for granted. We probably focus on the lousy weather, the passive aggressive nature of the people, the ineffective local government, and the selfish NIMBYs who ruin everything. However, on Sunday as we were driving north on the viaduct we glanced over to see the Olympic Mountains in all of their snow covered glory, and we were reminded that there are few places we would rather......

Keeping with today's apparent Seattlest themes of cute little references to the past and Comcast, we'd like to tell you about a complaint we have. Remember that guy a few years ago who refused to get a cell phone and what a pain in the ass it was to hook up with him? "I'll meet you at the North gate at 8 o'clock, or, if I'm not there, at the unintelligable gate at 9:45. And......

We're going to have to disagree with this assertion by the good folks at subscription site Dawgman.com. They're talking about the PAT block that helped UW beat Fresno State on Saturday. That is what winning teams do – they make their own luck. No matter how many big returns or screw ups that happened prior to that, they make a big play when they had to and it turned out to be the difference. No,......

The World Cup is so over that even the most pretentious Europhiles have finally shut up, but Seattlest has some unfinished business. Before the tournament started we set up something called the Seattlest World Cup Challenge over at ESPN and a bunch of you joined, despite our lack of creative naming skills. Some of you joined and forgot about it, only to get the points a monkey flipping coins would have. We doubt we'll......

75 minutes in, the Germany vs. Poland match was a draw -- then Poland's Sobolewski, in a snit after being beaten to the ball, tripped up Germany's Klose. Two yellow cards made a red, and Sobolewski was sent off to leave his team short-handed for the remaining 15 minutes. Poland sucked it up -- goalie Boruc made some fantastic saves -- and Germany misfired. At 90 minutes, just before stoppage time, Klose made a header......

Does Fox Sports NW have two hiring managers? One who is a brilliant mind, the other an evil genius...or just one with Jekyll and Hyde characteristics? How else to explain an organization that employs one terrific sideline reporter (Brian Davis, who works Sonics telecasts) and one atrocious sideline reporter (Brad Adam, who works Mariner telecasts). After every game, Davis (whose noticeable for his shiny, hairless head; the picture at right doesn't do it justice)......

The Super Bowl is two days away, and it's time to think happy thoughts. Though the Steelers are favored, there are plenty of folks who think the Hawks will win Super Bowl XL. Madden '06 players. Snohomish Slew, a frog (who also predicts six more weeks of winter). Mike Scanlan, a student at Cleveland's John Carroll University. Governor Christine Gregoire says Hawks 24-17. FOX Sports hired ex-Mariner manager Lou Piniella for a week. He'll join Joe Buck and Tim McCarver in the broadcast booth for the American League Championship Series, presumably to contribute some heterosexuality. We enjoyed listening to Lou's familiar, husky, clipped voice last night during Game One. He dispensed few of the lame bromides that characterized his post-game interviews while with the M's, instead focusing on his knowledge of the players on both teams. Piniella's only......

Breaking news late on Wednesday night--after yesterday's news that the Sonics had re-signed Ray Allen to a five-year, $85 million contract, Fox Sports is reporting that Nate McMillan has signed on to coach none other than...the Portland Trailblazers. We're bummed...more soon.......

Sonics' forward Rashard Lewis can't run on his injured toe, and will not play in Game Six of the Sonics' Western Conference semifinals series tonight, the AP reports. The Sonics, down 3-2 to San Antonio in the seven game series, must win tonight's game. It's at Key Arena at 7:30, and will be televised on Fox Sports NW and ESPN.......

The Seattle P-I today passes along a rumor that Seattle Prep basketball star and NBA prospect Martell Webster, who has committed to play next year for the University of Washington, signed a contract with an agent. If true, this would disqualify Webster from playing college ball. The unlikely source of the rumor? Webster's own guardian, his great aunt Beulah Walker. The agent in question, Eric Goodwin, denies the rumor. Webster, who NBAdraft.net projects as......

Until Saturday, the most memorable moment Jerome James provided as a Sonic was the time he was suspended for falling asleep during a team film session. "I wasn't asleep, I just nodded off," he later said. Or when he was late for practice when he couldn't get his car--a Hummer H2--out of his driveway after a Seattle "snowstorm." But last Saturday night, in Game 1 of the Sonics' first-round playoff series, James played the best......

This year the first day of the NCAA tournament occurs on St. Patrick's Day, so if there was ever a time to watch the games in a bar, this is it. Unfortunately, neither the Notre Dame Fighting Irish nor the Tulane Green Wave made the tourney. But our hometown Huskies did. In fact, they are one of the favorites. Their first-round game is today at noon. The tournament's first games begin at 9 am,......

A basketball is 9.39 inches across. A basketball hoop is 18 inches across. A perfectly placed shot has very little air on either side of it as it swishes through the rim. Four inches in any direction, and it's a brick. More than a little luck is involved. The Seattle media would do well to keep this in mind. For whenever the UW Husky men have lost this year, our city's imaginative sportswriters have ascribed......

To get a share of the Pac-10 title for the first time in 20 years, the Husky men likely must sweep the Bay Area schools this weekend, on the road. Game one is tonight, at California. If you watch the game (7:30 PM on Fox Sports Net), look for Cal's Richard Midgley, an English-born point guard in the Steve Nash mold. Midgley came to the U.S. to get better competition--twice in English schoolboy leagues he......
