Mt. Vernon should be proud of Glenn Beck like the UW should be proud of Ted Bundy. (Fun fact: Both were active Republicans!) Just because you’re a big deal, doesn’t mean you’re a good deal. Mt. Vernon Mayor Bud Norris, long-time Beck friend, isn’t letting that get in his way as the Fox News waterboy is to be honored and given a key to the city later this month.

Fox News Hearts Bright Blue Scrotums
The good people at Videogum had this clip from Fox News' coverage yesterday of the Woodland Park Zoo's monkey on the lam:
Ziggedy Zaggedy Zagat
The new Zagat is out, at least the one "devoted to Seattle" restaurants. And with "all due respect" to "local editor" Alicia Comstock Arter (who also contributes to Northwest Palate), it's "a freakin mess." The trouble, "brewing for years," is that the "capsule reviews" take isolated "nouns and adjectives" from "reader comments" and string them together to make "nonsensical" and "often inaccurate" profiles. It's a Fox News approach to dining, all pseudo-oracular, disjointed headlines with "little substance."
Did Mitt Romney Murder a Couple in Graham?
No. But that doesn't make this factoid from a political campaign article in today's any less disturbing:
Operatic Consequences
, that he who lives a wicked life dies a wicked death, is a sham; it's delivered by the opera's six suvivors as a tacked-on ending, in the theatrical equivalent of a wink-wink, with house lights up.
Speaking Tour: 9/14 - 9/19
They're talking; are you listening? Here's the round-up on speakers of note.
Swamp rats from the south threaten our way of life
We noted the arrival of some new water rat to the Seattle area on Friday, but after every single newspaper in the entire free world printed the AP story about it over the weekend maybe we should note it again. We're also going to note that nearly everyone who printed the article was fine with the AP headline, "South American Rodents Found in Seattle." Descriptive, but not all that punchy. You know, fine for the AP and thirty other newspapers around the world, but not quite up to Fox News standards. Fox had to modify rodents and spice up the verb a bit --"Ravenous South American Rodents Invade Washington State Lake". They INVADED. Personally Seattlest wonders if some editor at Fox News mistakenly thought he was heading an article on immigration when he wrote this.
Seattle Times, We've Had Enough
One sentence into the lead editorial of today's Seattle Times, we decided to cancel our subscription. Here's the assertion that broke this camel's back:
Seattle Weekly Scopes The Discovery Institute
Roger Downey and his merry band of straight-faced reporter types who just happen to write for an alternative weekly newspaper printed everything you never wanted to know about the Discovery Institute in today's paper. We say "everything you never wanted to know" because, really, who cares about Intelligent Design and the Discovery Institute? Isn't that something that Pennsylvania and Arkansas and Conservative Wackolandia have to pay attention to for a few minutes while their courts shoot down the best efforts of their "educators" to trump science with godliness?
