Today Seattlest welcomes our new sports correspondent to the fold. Drew Milam is a longtime Seattle resident who recently returned to the Emerald City after some time in the Bay Area, and claims to be super tight with fellow Santa Clara alum Steve Nash, Brandi Chastain and NFL referee Mike Carey. No word on if he got the gig because he is a Hillary supporter (pleasing Editor Kim) and a Garfield alum (pleasing Seattlest David).......

THEATRE: Suzanne Morrison's one-woman show Yoga Bitch is the tonight's highlight at SPF 2-Sweatproof!, the solo performance festival ongoing at the Theatre Off Jackson. Morrison's show recounts her trip to Bali for a two-month yoga retreat that illustrates, if nothing else, that the path to inner peace and killer abs has some hairpin turns in it. We found a Yoga Bitch excerpt on YouTube and were persuaded to see the whole thing. 7pm //......

Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels either loves condos or he hates renters. The Mayor's Office has indefinitely frozen a $350,000 fund created to compensate Seattle area renters who'd been forced out of housing due to condo-conversions. Mayor Nickels wants to wait and see if the legislature passes a statewide bail-out funded by developers this winter. Because it makes perfect sense to rely on the people who are profiting most off of Seattle renter's misery. If......

Last week we were taking Husky football with a friend who was upset that the University hadn't fired coach Ty Willingham. We mentioned that, though he hadn't won many games, Willingham had restored integrity to the football program. She was unmoved. "The university does a lot of good," she said. "The football team's job is to win games." But now our friend has read the Seattle Times' stomach-turning series about the alleged rape, attempted murder,......

When we lived in LA we had no problem watching the Huskies play at Pauley Pavilion. We could just get in our car, hop on the 10, and presto, eight hours later we were in the building. The first time we went, in 2003, the Dawgs needed to win in order to have a chance at the eighth seed in the Pac 10 Tournament. The last time we went in 2005 the fans were chanting......

Is there drama in Saturday's NFC divisional playoff game between the Hawks and Packers? Well, the playoffs are always dramatic. But this game packs (ha!) even more of a theatrical punch. The storylines: Conquering Hero Returns to Site of Greatest Triumphs: Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren was once coach of Green Bay. He got the Packers to two Super Bowls, winning one--their first championship since the departure of legendary coach Vince Lombardi. There's a street named......

The new Zagat is out, at least the one "devoted to Seattle" restaurants. And with "all due respect" to "local editor" Alicia Comstock Arter (who also contributes to Northwest Palate), it's "a freakin mess." The trouble, "brewing for years," is that the "capsule reviews" take isolated "nouns and adjectives" from "reader comments" and string them together to make "nonsensical" and "often inaccurate" profiles. It's a Fox News approach to dining, all pseudo-oracular, disjointed headlines with......

No. But that doesn't make this factoid from a political campaign article in today's P-I any less disturbing: "If it's OK to notify a political campaign about this guy, what about the neighbors he lived near for months?" said Ed Troyer, a spokesman for the Pierce County Sheriff's Department, pointing out that [Mitt] Romney's aides were warned about [Daniel Thomas] Tavares's presence here during the candidate's recent campaign swing through Seattle, though Troyer's own office......

You Seattle old-timers will remember that KCPQ-13 reception was once very hit-or-miss. Wasn't bothersome in the 80s since the station's schedule was mostly old, bad movies. But in the first years of their Fox affiliation, it could be quite vexing fiddling with your antenna as The Simpsons faded in and out. Here's some helpful 80s'-looking KCPQ promo guy to help. And, after the jump, a bunch more old Seattle TV vidcaps.......

Placekickers are held in low regard by their football teammates. No, that's too generous. Placekickers are held in no regard by their football teammates. Imagine if the Superfriends had a guy whose sole power was to instantaneously hard-boil eggs. Batman and Aquaman would, we suspect, have the same respect for "The Ovomaster" that NFL players do for their kicker teammates. But, Sunday, in the Seahawks' 30-23 win over the Bears, Seahawks kicker Josh Brown made......

Anti- reissued three Neko Case albums today: Furnace Room Lullaby from 2000, Blacklisted from 2002, and last year's Fox Confessor Brings the Flood. Stock up if you don't have 'em. If you're like Seattlest -- obsessed -- you already own them. So what's new? Bonus disc. This year's Fox Confessor comes with a 5-song disc containing "Set Out Running" and "Furnace Room Lullaby" from Furnace, "Deep Red Bells" and the lovely "I Wish I Was......

It's Seattle Shakespeare Company's version of the wandering prince Pericles on Friday night for MvB, followed Saturday night by Britain's accordion-driven, Brechtian street opera trio with neo-castrati Martyn Jacques, the Tiger Lilies at the Moore, ladies and gentlemen. Having been invited down to San Francisco for a friend’s bachelorette bacchanalia with only one directive ("Bring a wig"), Courtney is hoping she doesn’t end up in the clink this weekend. While laughing at Charles for attending......

The scene in the basement of Seattlest HQ last night when FOX showed Ichiro rounding third and heading home on his inside-the-park home run was what I imagine an old-time political convention looked like after they nominated the hometown candidate after 86 ballots. There were eight of us packed down there, but we all found room to jump around, wave our arms frantically so we looked like a giant third-base coaches convention, and, eventually, exchange......

Seattlest decided to check out the new Tap House Grill yesterday evening. They opened earlier this week in the old Planet Hollywood location right next to Fox Sports Grill, on 6th Ave. between Pike and Pine. No matter what you think about the place, they do have an impressive amount of beer. The wall behind the bar is lined with 160 taps. They offer a solid selection of local beers mixed with offerings from......

Some of you may be interested in checking out the newly opened Tap House Grill in downtown Seattle. Although we have had issues with service, beer quality and availability of beers on their list at the Tap House in Bellevue, we are still hoping the Seattle location works out. With 160 beers on tap, it should not be hard to find something you want. The new Seattle location is in the old Planet Hollywood building......

Christopher Hitchens filled Town Hall to overflowing last night to talk about his new book, God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything. It was nearly standing room only. Seattlest was one of the last people to squeeze into the hall and find a seat. Apparently Seattle has a lot of atheists. Who knew? In his other appearances around the country, Hitchens has appeared with a local theist as a debate partner. He was scheduled......

Quick, while Paris is in jail and the politicians annointed as "official" candidates by CNN and Fox are poking each others' eyes out, let's take a moment to talk about the Farm Bill. (Yeah, right.) Seriously, because you are what you eat, you know. (Yeah, right.) There's probably no clearer voice in America about the business of food than Michael Pollan's. In his award-winning book, The Omnivore's Dilemma and in regular newspaper articles, he......

Last night on the Discovery Channel there was a Deadliest Catch wrap-up-type episode where Mike Rowe had all the assorted captains gathered at the Lockspot in Ballard for some "why do you do it?" commiseration. It's like in their blood or something. There was no satisfactory answer, actually. Seattlest can understand why people fish crab up in Alaska. You can get hurt, sure, but you make some money and you don't have to put up......

Ah, the festival. The half-pound Gorge Burger, the ten-dollar beer, the fragrant smell of weed and clove cigarettes carried along by an occasional, much appreciated breeze. And of course, all that music. By the time our feet hit festival ground, Viva Voce were setting up at the Yeti Stage. We got our burger and a beer and settled in for a bit of Seattlest's favorite married rock couple. We hadn't seen Viva Voce live......

Vitals: 27 yo RHP. Born in Tainan, Taiwan. 6-3, 225. 27-13, 3.84 career. 0-2, 5.84 in 2007. $489,500 salary. Arsenal: A hard-sinking mid-90s fastball that's so effective, he throws it 75% of the time (most pitchers throw about 65% fastballs). Wang's almost a two-pitch pitcher, because he throws his slider almost exclusively to righties, and his change (a forkball) almost exclusively to lefties. Wang's hard-sinking fastball gave him the highest groundball/flyball ratio in the American......

Say this for new Sonics owner Clay Bennett--he knows shitty basketball when he sees it. And he's replacing the men most responsible for bringing it to you, GM Rick Sund and coach Bob Hill. Hill ends his Sonics tenure with a 53-81 career record--worst for any coach who lasted at least a full season since Al Bianchi, who can be excused since he was coaching an expansion team. We hope this gives some small measure......

For our headline, we borrow the words of that magnificent artisan of the English language, Fox Sports Northwest's Brad Adam. Could anyone sum up Felix Hernandez' breathtaking, complete game shutout, no-hit-thru-seven-innings performance last night any better? Probably not, but let's take a look-see. "He threw me a pitch my last at-bat, I'm not kidding you, it moved about 6 feet and it was a 95-mile-an-hour sinker. I mean, what can you do?" -- 2B......

More snow--today's games are postponed. they'll play a doubleheader on Sunday, and try to make the third game up during an off day later in the season. Geoff Baker reports that a Cleveland paper described Hargrove's heroics last night thusly: "Hargrove pulled an invisible rabbit from his cap and somehow persuaded the umpires to feed it carrots." In other news: --Oregon State isn't OSU anymore, they are OS. It's an attempt to trick recruits into......

Cities in other states. Why, during 24 tonight, did Fox 13 news use their "Coming up" commercial break to tell us they have Breaking News about a bunch of people who got shot in a mall in Salt Lake City? (Granted, we're from there, so we care but we don't understand why this is making the Seattle news.) And why are they reporting on their site about a murder-suicide in Philadelphia? Today is an absolutely lovely day in Park City, sunny and so warm that we had to take off our coat and scarf to walk around. Yesterday was lovely too, but we wouldn't know, because we spent, oh, approximately fourteen hours in a single theater. Was it worth it? Here's a 220-year-old opera whose anti-hero exhibits reckless behavior and cynical indifference to real-world consequences. (Sound like the current resident of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue?) Yet the "moral" that's tacked on to Don Giovanni, that he who lives a wicked life dies a wicked death, is a sham; it's delivered by the opera's six suvivors as a tacked-on ending, in the theatrical equivalent of a wink-wink, with house lights up. Yes, the Don goes to hell......

It looks like Guv Gregoire was stung by all those comments about her punting on Seattle's favorite watercooler topic: the Viaduct. She's now issued what KIRO-TV is calling an "ultimatum" that if no city vote is held before April 22, the State will issue us a replacement viaduct. Or maybe she's heard about that rumored poll that doesn't show the tunnel gaining 50% of the vote, and is eager to make Mayor Nickels her......
