Thanks to the initiative of restaurants on First Avenue, the First Tuesday of every month will find a new set of people trolling the blocks between Madison and Union. Usually the domain of the 'Spare a Quarter for Something to Eat?' set, tonight First Avenue will be home to a well-dressed, well-fed set of foodies looking for their next bite.

Bank Robbery Suspect Shot in Downtown
Downtown Seattle turned into an Old West style stand-off this morning as SPD officers pursued bank robbery suspects driving a gold SUV. Shortly before 11 a.m., SPD officers surrounded the suspect's car on Spring Street between First and Second Avenues. While all the details remain sketchy, at shortly after 10 a.m., a man described as armed and wearing a mask held-up a West Seattle Wells Fargo on the 2300 block of California Street. SPD officers entered a pursuit as the suspect fled in a car driven by an accomplice. The chase first led through Capitol Hill and then downtown, where one of the suspects fled on foot near the intersection of First and Yesler before being apprehended. The driver continued on, leading to the eventual stand-off in downtown. Unwilling to relinquish the weapon or exit his car despite demands from officers, the SPD fired on the suspect, hitting him in the neck.
Belltown's Positive Sauce
Instead of focusing on what Belltown has lost, we’d like to inject some positivity in the form of BBQ sauce on an overlooked aspect of this scrutinized neighborhood.
UW Grows Up
The UW became a more urban campus today with the purchase of the Safeco tower. Don't get us wrong; we love the sprawling, verdant expanses, nooks, and crannies of the main campus. However, a properly urban university -- like its students -- should engage with its neighborhood by wandering beyond campus and fanning into the surrounding area.
Crispy, Crunchy
They're called Crispy Prawns with lime and ginger, and an order of six costs $4 during happy hour at Belltown's spanking-new Umi Sake House. A generous happy hour it is, with snacks and drinks at reduced prices from 4 to 8 every day on the "front porch."
Liberal Relativist Traffic Reports on Biased KUOW
Dear pansy-ass liberals at KUOW--stop the relativism. Just as there's a difference between Gitmo and My Lai, there's a difference between East and West Marginal Way.
MVET Scheduled To Die In June
Ding dong the car tax's dead. The wicked car tax is dead. Well, not officially dead like you'll get out of paying it if your car tabs come up this month, but the Monorail Project has started the process of ending the tax on June 30th, due to the fact that all those sexy properties the Project swept up to make way for the Green Line have been selling like hotcakes. Uh, hotcakes that you force private residents to sell you for a mass transit line you don't intend to build and then sell back to the public for more than what you paid for them. That kind of hotcakes.
Art in the Square - MiKiJio
Transplanted from the other coast, Maki Morinoue and husband Geoffrey Grauer's mission is to reinivigorate people's attitude toward art. This showing, along with an upcoming dance performance in July by Esse Aficionado are sure to do just that.
Suicide by Cop
A man described as distraught apparently attempted suicide last night by jumping from the First Avenue South bridge in West Seattle. His wife and child in a nearby car witnessed the unsuccessful attempt. The First Avenue South bridge is not very high, although there are a number of much higher jumps in the area. The 20-yr-old male was sufficiently mobile after his first jump to climb back on the bridge and try again.
And the Award for Most Ridiculous Billboard Goes to...
Yes, Seattle, here it is: your most ridiculous billboard.
