The Seattle Times says Lake Forest Police Sgt. Jason Becker found the 27-year-old woman, who has bipolar disorder, outside of Lake Forest Park Market on Ballinger Way Northeast. She was under the impression her car had been stolen from the ferry. Amy Story's car had been found on the 3 p.m. Bainbridge-to-Seattle ferry on Monday, and she was sighted around Seattle a few times before being reunited with her family.

If You Left Your Car on the Bainbridge Ferry...

...the Coast Guard is now looking for you in the water. Since it's a Monday, our money is on someone forgetting they drove on. It happens, you get to talking with someone on board, they walk off, you walk off with them. Also, you're very high. Ah, now KOMO says the search is "for the driver of a gold 1999 Mitsubishi Galant, whom they believe is a woman."

The 7:55 Bainbridge-Seattle ferry stopped and began a search after a passenger reported seeing a man overboard, but as KOMO News reports, the sighting on closer inspection was "a log with colored flags attached to it." The Wenatchee got underway again about 8:45 a.m., delivering Bainbridge commuters late to work and with a highly dubious excuse, too. We report this news as a favor to them. We got your back, Bainbridgeans!

Around 8 a.m. today, you may have noticed Lake Union looking a little more weepy than usual--and for good reason. That was when the beloved Wawona, a really old schooner, moved to the dry docks on other side of the lake in order to begin the slow death of dismantlement after some 30 years beautifying the waterfront. Decades-long efforts to raise enough money to renovate the ship finally lost steam in the march towards creating a more perfect Union. (Har, har.) All this shippy hullaballoo reminds us of the Kalakala debacle. Apparently the Kalakala is now scheduled to be restored in 2010, potentially to be converted into a future museum site; has owner Steve Rodrigues considered purchasing the Wawona as well? It could be a really cool, touristy floating bar!

Sometimes we stop to think--for instance while waiting to hear more about the non-credible bomb threat that's halted the Bremerton ferry run this afternoon--about Bainbridge Island. Which is always the way. Bremerton forever gets the short end of the stick.

After losing all power and floating adrift in the midst of nearly full-run yesterday, the ferry Elwah will be out of service for at least two days. Just in time for a beautiful weekend where it would be lovely to escape to the San Juans! The Elwah is just one of a few ferries that provides service from Anacortes to the San Juans, but some sailings have had to be canceled because of the problems. If you are lucky enough to be planning an island escape this weekend, make sure to check that your planned ferry is still running.

Forget what everybody's saying for a second and remember that driving a car still can be fun. Open country roads, bright-shining sun, no cops in sight--there isn’t a replacement for this experience. Gas be damned.

When will people learn that a joke about having a bomb is never taken as a joke? We believe this statement has always been true, but is especially so in our heightened state of paranoia about security. Just to reiterate this truth, two Seattle gentlemen temporarily halted ferry service on Sunday, after making a joke about placing a bomb in the trunk of their car.

Man, the ferry system is really having a time of it this year. First they realize that 80-year-old ferries might not be seaworthy or even worth fixing. Then no one wanted to buy a used ferry on eBay and mechanical issues put a ferry on the Pt. Defiance route out of commission earlier this month.

[Via Komo] We've been loosely planning our Alaska adventure for a few weeks now. Loosely, we say, because we haven't actually made any reservations yet. Mostly we've just been cruising the web, gathering information and daydreaming about sitting out on the deck of a ferry as it makes its way through the inside passage of America's 49th state.
