KOMO News is reporting that a day after the nation's largest ferry system got snubbed by the feds, Sen. Patty Murray has secured $7.6 million in federal transportation funding.

It's been six months since the sailors of the U.S.S. John C. Stennis, a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier have been back in their home port of Bremerton. This morning, the ship--which measures the length of three football fields--arrived with more than 3,000 sailors trying to escape to the bar on board. We expect tonight's Bremerton to Seattle ferry route at 7:55 p.m., 9 p.m., and 11:40 p.m. will more than likely be filled with sailors heading to the big city, recouping their past six months in a weekend's time. Cheers, welcome back!
Opening Day for boating season is just a few weeks out, but the news stories are already starting to come in from off the water. This morning, ferry workers had a rough start to their day as they discovered a body of an adult male around 8:30 a.m. under the Pier 52 Colman Dock. On Saturday, a tugboat sunk to the bottom of Lake Washington--near Kenmore--spilling 40-50 gallons of diesel fuel into the lake; they refloated the tug on Sunday. Don't worry, the state's Department of Ecology is on it. Over by the Ship Canal, one guy realized that the sky wasn't falling on his car, but parts of the Ship Canal Bridge were. Thankfully for him, yesterday proved to be a great day for a sun roof.
We don't think we could possibly be any more enamored with a photo than we are with this beauty. It looks like a misplaced masterpiece you'd find at an antique store, buried beneath piles of unwanted snapshots. Please keep uploading your gems to the Seattlest Flickr Pool, and we will remain in constant awe of you all...and of this beautiful city we are lucky enough to call home.
Want to get away from the craziness that is Seattle during the Fourth of July? Try the San Juan Islands. This Seattlest will be packing her camping gear and kayak to explore the beautiful (and likely rainy, WTF?) San Juan Islands.
Generally, because we're a bit of a scaredy-pants, we can't sit through episodes of Ghost Hunters (or other such shows) without closing our eyes or plugging our ears. But we will most certainly make an exception if they do an episode on the ghosts of Washington State Ferries past.
About those photos we released to the world, implying you were terrorists...really sorry about that. Clearly, you're just innocent European businessmen who appear to be of Middle Eastern descent.
Man, the ferry system is really having a time of it this year. First they realize that 80-year-old ferries might not be seaworthy or even worth fixing. Then no one wanted to buy a used ferry on eBay and mechanical issues put a ferry on the Pt. Defiance route out of commission earlier this month.
It seems every time we check a local news site, which is pretty regularly...okay hourly, there's a report of another malfunctioning ferry. According to our unscientific, educated guesstimate, The Washington State Ferry Service has only had a few days of normal running schedules in the past month.
As Seattlest reported a couple of weeks ago, Washington State was trying to unload a used passenger ferry on Ebay. Sadly, the time has come and gone for bidding on the Chinook, without an acceptable bidder. This wasn't one of the "your best offer" sales on Ebay, Washington State wouldn't part with the boat for less than $4.5million and no one laid down that kind of offer. Bidding on the boat closed yesterday without a single legitimate bid. Guess folks who are looking for mulit-million dollar boats aren't doing their shopping on Ebay.
