Today federal law enforcement agents announced that after a 14-month investigation they have dismantled a large Seattle drug trafficking ring, one that's been dispensing methamphetamine and cocaine into the state from Jalisco, Mexico.
And here we were worried about Mexican-borne swine flu.
Feds Bust Up Washington Drug Trafficking Ring
Feds Up Contribution To Light Rail Project
The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) will be providing a huge chunk of financial support for Seattle's light-rail project--to the tune of $813 million. That's about 40% of the total cost, says the math-savvy P-I this morning. Doesn't sound like the extra federal funding, an increase from initial promises, will make the work go any faster; we're still looking at 2016 as a finish date for the main light-rail route from downtown to the UW. Reading all the details about tunneling in different kinds of soil is exciting, though, and reminds us that this is really happening. We're really getting light-rail! 2016 is only seven Christmases away!
Clean Up Your Nuclear Waste, Please
Our fine state might sue the U.S. of A. after the feds missed important clean-up deadlines at Hanford last year, the Seattle Times reports. We're inclined to second that emotion. The consequences for missing a routine bathroom cleaning at Seattlest HQ are dire enough; we don't even want to try to imagine how someone thought it was okay to delay the clean-up at a nuclear waste dump. Maybe we should turn to litigation to solve the hair-clogged drain problem at HQ, as well.
DEA Takes Medicinal Marijuana Seized by SPD
Despite the fact that medical marijuana is legal in the State of Washington and the Seattle Police Department are paid to uphold said laws, the SPD handed over 12 ounces of illegally seized medicinal marijuana to the DEA. The SPD turned the medical marijuana to the DEA at the request of U.S. Attorney Jeff Sullivan, who asked for it to be destroyed.
Feds Running Out of Clever Operation Names
Either that or they have hired the stoners they are busting to come up with operation names.
