Elysian Brews Another: Triple Door Backstage Ale to Release on Thursday
Here's to Beer! Night Owl Pumpkin Ale
It’s that time of year again; time for pumpkin beers. This is a historic method of making beer that goes back to the early days of brewing in colonial America. There was not much available in terms of malted barley or hops, but pumpkin was abundant and therefore utilized enthusiastically as a readily available form of fermentable sugars. For modern brewers, the use of pumpkin is more about celebrating the fall season and creating unique flavors in the brew. One of the more renowned local pumpkin brews is Night Owl Pumpkin Ale from Elysian Brewing.

Latona Pub & Local Breweries Team Up for Earth Day (Week)
Last week Latona Pub's Bar Manager Ellliot Ryan, came up with an idea on how to celebrate 4/22 (aka Earth Day) at the bar: carry the kegs from the breweries. The terms were much easier than what you think as he, along with some loyal disciples, carried kegs from many local breweries using anything other than truck or car.
Cask Fest Session One, A Semi-Buzzed Review
Last Saturday, while most of you stood outside taking in the sun, doing yard work, or taking a walk, we went to Seattle Center to drink. Last weekend was the annual Washington Beer Commission's Cask Festival, which featured over 90 beers served from everything from a firkin (profanity it is not) keg to a hand pumped "cask engine". Each year the event is broken into two four hour, all-you-can-drink sessions (although we do not advise trying to fulfill the terms). This year, as we have in the past, elected for Session One, with the side effect of potentially enjoying what was the left of the evening.
Happy Beer Hour, Part Four
Pillager's Pub, Greenwood (Tuesday, 50-percent-off "house" growler fills; Mon-Sun, $1 off pints) Stagger in from 87th & Greenwood to taste Baron & Three Skulls beers paired side by side with a few guest faves. The draft list is managed by former Duck Island'er Jeremiah Harrison and features--on top of beers and cider--authentic mead. Pull up a battered stool, chew up a $1 pretzel, or play a game of pool--just watch your arse, sharks abound.
Beer Week Lasts Ten Days...Starting Now!
Beer enthusiast/evangelist Geoff Kaiser used to write about the beloved beverage for Seattlest before he got wise to the whole, hey, anyone can start a blog thing. God, we miss him bringing his market research back to Seattlest HQ. Check out his Seattlebeernews.com for updates and reviews on many of the events from Seattle Beer Week.
Euro Cup Calls for a Euro Pub
We were mid-bite on our Bratwurst Sandwich mit Pommes Frittes ($8) when Spain's Fernando Torres scored the sole goal, and we celebrated quietly with a swig of Franziskaner Dunkel Weissbier. A friend of ours whooped and threw her hands up in the air. She suddenly felt very alone, she mentioned later.
