Though the political news of the day is most certainly McCain's ploy to "suspend" his campaign and delay the first presidential debate as well as the VP debate in order to concentrate on the economic crisis, there's other news out today about the plight of Republican candidates this year. According to the New York Times, Washington State Democrats are suing to force Republican candidate for governor Dino Rossi to list his party affiliation on the......

Washington's Democratic Convention went down this weekend in Yakima and depending on your perspective the caucus either contained a diversity of ideas and opinions on the war in Iraq or was torn in two over the war in Iraq. Maria Cantwell, of course, seems to be the focal point of a lot of contention, regardless of how seriously you view that contention. Dueling chanters did battle when she took the stage arguing, "No more six!"......

The state Democrats are accusing Republican Senate candidate Mike! McGavick of receiving an illegal campaign contribution in the form of a nearly seventeen million dollar severance package from Safeco Insurance. Party chair Dwight Pelz claims that this violated federal laws prohibiting corporate contributions and contributions to candidates for personal use. Surprisingly McGavick(!) refuted these allegations, and told the Times, "This is standard political junk that people are so sick of.” Then he forgot which party......

Last week Democrat Dwight Pelz and Republican Diane Tebelius were elected to head their state political parties. Local douche bag Tim Eyman will challenge the state’s new civil rights bill. Next year the state primary may be held in August. Today Sally Clark will be sworn onto the City Council. Blah, blah, blah. Nothing really changes. Before the game one of our roommates mentioned that Condoleezza Rice had picked the Steelers, to which our other......

In the days leading up to the election, we will amalgamate what the four newspapers had to say about the races into one combined blurb for each candidate or initiative because we do not purport to follow city politics closely enough to advise anyone, even ourselves, how to vote. That's why God invented local politics writers. Mayor of Seattle (non-partisan) Greg Nickels: The incumbent was “a doer in his first term” who “focused on basics”......

There's approximately 550,000 people in Seattle, and about 45,000 of them voted yesterday. What did this select few decide? --They gave the Monorail board a few new members. --They chose Ron Sims to be the Democratic candidate for King County Commissioner. --They picked a candidate to run against Greg Nickels in November's general election: Al Runte, a former UW professor. On his web site, the neophyte pol says he is "running for Mayor of Seattle......

In contrast to local temperatures, here's three things that are heating up: the hype surrounding Spanish tennis sensation Rafael Nadal, the fire under Mariner GM Bill Bavasi's ass, and the race between presumed City Council election rivals Dwight Pelz and Richard McIver. McIver backers recently created The Dwight Pelz Magic-8 Ball, an online oracle that purports to see inside the mind of Pelz, who announced this month that he would run for McIver's city......

Downsized King County Councilman Dwight Pelz, who originally planned to run for Richard Conlin's Seattle City Council seat, flip-flopped last week, and will instead run against Richard McIver. Ironically, when Pelz committed to run against Conlin, in January, he said this: "[Conlin] is very committed to process. I make decisions very quickly. I think the City Council needs more decisiveness." Ya don't say. Pelz faces the spectre of unemployment when the King County Council......

It looks like a city council race will have issues other then off leash areas and transportation woes. The fate of the trolley has become part of the campaign for those seeking City Council Position 2. Sure, it is not as exciting as strip-club owners giving money to council members, as titillating as who mismanaged city departments, or as delightfully confusing as anything that Charlie Chong said, but the trolley is shaping up to......
