Last week we made it out to our first Duck Dodge sailboat race of the year -- there was no theme, but it was hot, the upper-80s, and there was a good breeze which made for an actual race as opposed to beer drinking and chip munching punctuated by the occasional slow-motion tack. Seattlest continues our quest for sailing opportunities in the city. Most recently we have been racing sailboats at Shilshole Marina as part of a crew of low key sailors every Monday evening. Although a collision in this last race forced us out of the competition, we are still thankful we did not sail on Sunday. All we needed was one day of sun, wind, and no precipitation and our thoughts turned waterwards: it's time to think about sailing. Last summer we joined the SailNOW! program at the Center for Wooden Boats on South Lake Union. For $270 we got one classroom lecture, a group sail, and a bunch of small group lessons (generally two to three students per instructor).
