Regardless of what the weather's been doing this season, Seattleites know it must be summer when you see a retired "duck" careering down the street, packed to the brim with pirates. Oh, Seafair.
What's the Plan? Today's Torchlight Activities
Seafair Showcases 2011 Torchlight Grand Marshall: It's Drew Carey
Yup. Drew Carey is going to be the leading the way during this summer's parade.
Football Friday: Leftovers Edition
We are sitting in front of the TV watching the Issaquah-Skyline 4A championship game, still working on a heaping plate of leftovers from last weekend. (Does turkey have an expiration date?) This game was originally scheduled for Saturday, but was moved to accommodate Bellevue, who plays Union in the 3A final. Bellevue played a rescheduled game earlier this week after their bus rolled over on the way to last week's game. Here...grab a plate.
No MLS Cup for Seattle
We're getting a new Major League Soccer team and everyone either is or should be excited. Drew Carey's walking around town, season tickets are flying off the shelves and the MLS Cup is approaching this weekend. On the field Houston faces New England, but there's sure to be a lot of talk during the broadcast about Seattle, our new team and the interesting ideas that have been associated with it. Unfortunately, no one in Seattle will see that broadcast. KOMO won't be showing it. A reader figured out it wasn't on KOMO's schedule and sent them an email. Here's what he got in return:
Oh When the Sounders Come Marching In
It's cool that Drew Carey has been the face of the new Seattle MLS team, appearing at the G&D and showing up in the booth for Monday Night Football to talk about the team's plans in Seattle, but he's kind of a Cleveland guy. Couldn't we get a Seattle name that's about on par with Carey? Like....oh god there is no Seattle name on par with Drew Carey. Long live Seattle guy Drew Carey!
Monday Night Football 2Night
Tonight, the nation's hardcore gamblers' eyes will be on Seattle as our fair burgh hosts Monday Night Football.
Dirty Movies Abound
Even though today is Wednesday, as far as we're concerned, yesterday was Hump Day, since that's when submissions were due for The Stranger's first annual amateur porn contest. Public viewing of the, um, entries will be the evening of August 20th at the Northwest Film Forum, with the awards party later that night at Chop Suey.
