Saturday afternoon, Top Pot's 5th Ave location filled up as people arrived to watch their 3rd Annual Doughnut Eating Contest, sponsored by Light in the Attic Records and KEXP. Here are pics (and a grainy video) from the event, which was won once again by the intimidatingly-named Billy the Fridge (9 doughnuts in 5 minutes).

- The swashbuckling Seafair Pirates landed on the beaches of West Seattle on Saturday, officially kicking off Seafair 2009.
- The police are on the lookout for a four-door red Saturn or Chevy Cavalier with "fancy hubcaps" that they believe was involved in a shooting Saturday night on the 8100 block of 48th Avenue South. No one was injured, just a car and empty home found with a few bullet holes.
- No one's sayin' there's a ban on washing your car at home, here in Washington. But if you happen to suds up the trusty automobile, the powers that be strongly recommend washing the car over gravel or grass to filter the dirty water.
Seattlest was in Vancouver this weekend, and, on a whim, made our first foray into a Tim Hortons. We'd heard good things -- "the apex of Canadian cuisine," for example -- and as lifelong doughnut fans we were happy to test that claim.
The local deliciousness that is Top Pot Doughnuts has opened a new neighborhood location. Queen Anne has been blessed (truly) with the fourth installation of the local doughnut and coffee shop. The new location had its grand opening this week, with hopes to create a whole new neighborhood of Feather Boa addicts.
We're doughnut lovers, but we've never been a fan of the light, airy, spun-sugar doughnuts that Krispy Kreme built its empire on. We're devotees of the solid, cakey, embody-the-word-pastry doughnuts hand-forged by Top Pot.
