Okay, we're back from a Portland jaunt, and we learned two brunch things: first, the portions at Gravy are enormous and you will only get halfway through them, so a side isn't necessary, no matter how delicious and fluffy a biscuit sounds. Second, even though the menu at the Doug Fir Lounge offers you a choice between spinach or ham on your eggs benedict, if you order spinach and ham, the staff says, "Sure!" and then there it is--a spinach and ham eggs benedict. Yeah, we know. We got all choked up, too.

Second chances are rare, but here you go, Seattle. Last time Great Northern came to town, y'all bunked out and went home instead of sticking around for the inevitable encore. The band pulled the plug, had a smoke and packed it in. And we were sad. Though it seems they were just here, Great Northern is touring again in support of their new EP, the appropriately titled, Sleepy Eepee. Check out the new songs here....

The glorious fall sunsets have disappeared along with the mouldering husks of Halloween pumpkins, and according the weather report, we can all expect a long, cold, wet weekend. But this being the Northwest, that's never stopped us from getting out and about; here's the weekend plans of your intrepid Seattlest contributors:

Saturday we went to see Ten Tiny Dances, co-curated by Seattle's Crispin Spaeth and Portland's Mike Barber. All the dances are made for a 4' x 4' plywood stage, and this year Barber had decided to tighten the constraints by insisting that the performers stay within a foot or so of the stage if they stepped off.

Since Portland doesn’t have an –ist yet, Seattlest kind of feels like they are our younger brother who often gets ignored and we should plug them once in a while. On the other hand, if someone says Portland might be cooler than Seattle, we are immediately on the defensive. Whichever it is, we do believe we have found some Portland features worth noting. For instance, we went to Portland over the weekend to stay in the Jupiter Hotel and see Ivy at the adjacent Doug Fir Lounge.
