Let's talk about what can happen when a national title contender (like LSU) plays an early season game 2,000 miles from home in a loud, hostile stadium against an unranked power conference team (like Washington). One thing that can happen is that the national title contender will get stomped. Ask the 1983 Washington Huskies.

This fall we are combining our love of the football and our dream of learning to cook by preparing a meal from the city of the Seahawks' opponent.

Last week we were taking Husky football with a friend who was upset that the University hadn't fired coach Ty Willingham. We mentioned that, though he hadn't won many games, Willingham had restored integrity to the football program.

Football is measured in coaching eras. The Don James era, for example. But within those are a subset of mini-eras, belonging to the team's starting quarterback. Tonight the Huskies start probably the most anticipated mini-era in team history: The Jake Locker Era.

Do you see any parallels between the struggles of the start of the Don James era and the start of the Tyrone Willingham era?

The 1985 Orange Bowl between UW and Oklahoma is one of Seattlest's earliest memories. After Dad told us to stop fidgeting (we were real nervous) we sat our 8-year-old butt in a chair, by the 17-inch Sony Trinitron, and watched the flickering images of a titanic Husky upset beam back from Miami.
