Bundle is a website backed by MSN Money, Citibank, and Morningstar is using demographic data from the US government as well as (anonymous) spending information from Citibank to take a snapshot of spending data. They've organized it by state, county, city, and ZIP code, as well as allowing the information to be tracked by demographics. The data stops in October 2009, but it does give you an idea of what spending looks like across the categories of shopping, travel & leisure, food & drink,house/home, health & family, and getting around. So how does your 'hood and your demo stack up against Seattle? more ›

Seattle vs. Portland: Our Contributors Debate to the Death

Seattle vs. Portland: Our Contributors Debate to the Death

Seattle. Portland. Which one's better? You may say: "How can you choose? Each has their good points. It's like asking which religion is better." Guess what, asshole, that Negative Nellie attitude is the reason nobody ever asks for your fucking opinion. Jerk. To the debate! First up, it's a pro-Seattle opinion. more ›

Getting to know your 2007 Cruise Ships: MS Zaandam

We're only weeks away from that magical time of year when we turn our local waters over to those diesel coughing, gray water vomiting, tourist dollar extracting devices the cruise ships. All hail! There have been a few changes at the Port this year and the new cleaner, greener personal have passed muster with the Bluewater Network, the cruise industry's traditional foil in local media, but Seattlest remains skeptical that increased cruise traffic in the Sound is in our best interest. Seattlest at Sundance: Take 2

It seems that it's always about day two of the fest that we really fall in love with this place---the overheard intense discussions of films, the industry gossip, the random interactions with individuals you will never see again, and all that swag just ripe for the taking---really, these are a few of our favorite things. more ›

Androgyny vs. Hedonism

Androgyny vs. Hedonism

Tonight is a night of hard choices. Sure, it's more on the scale of where to see Snakes on a Plane then how to replace the viaduct, but it's a hard and important decision nonetheless. That decision? Do you attend the ghetto-fabulous debut of Bootylib at the Baltic Room or the 80s fabulous Prince vs. Michael at Rebar? more ›

Population Growth Slowing, Condo Growth Surging

The population growth around Seattle is generally of the highly-visable variety: enormous cranes downtown, insta-condos (just add water!) everywhere, that old 1960's rambler next door getting torn down and rebirthed as a triplex. It turns out, though, that King County is a laggard in terms of growth in the state of Washington. The population growth of King County, by percentage of the total state population, currently stands behind Franklin, Island, Clark, San Juan, Whatcom, Thurston and Snohomish counties. more ›
