The Obama presidency has been potent fertilizer for a new crop of right-wing conspiracy theories about the President, Democrats, liberals, and institutions identified with liberals. By now we're all familiar with birtherism, but there's a whole galaxy of bizarre innuendo to buy into if you hate the President. There's the theory that he's deliberately destroying the economy, that Weatherman Bill Ayers ghostwrote his best-selling memoirs, that Malcom X was his real father, that he's motivated by hatred of British colonialism, that he's a Muslim, that he wants to build a brownshirt-like organization in America, that liberals are indoctrinating your children in public schools, the list continues ad nauseaum. Most of them were made up out of whole cloth by talk radio hosts and other conservative hypemen, but some contain a grain of truth that has been spun into a larger fable.

Last Night's Murray/Rossi Debate: More Fun Than Waxing Floors at the Space Needle
The joy of challenging an incumbent is that you can make all of DC your whipping boy. This is a political standard is older than John McCain. Experts have found that a candidate can employ this method successfully in any election for either party. Last night, Republican Senatorial Candidate Dino Rossi was in incumbent attack mode, demonstrating his very own flavor of anti-DC rhetoric.

Who's Watching Nightline Tonight?
Last week, we alerted you to a debate about Satan to be taped for ABC's Nightline here in Seattle, at Mars Hill Church. Tonight is your chance to watch the Driscoll/Hookers For Jesus/Chopra/Pearson conversation on TV, though we're sure it will float around the internet for awhile after airing. Though it is our kneejerk response to hate on Driscoll, we admit: we're curious how he'll handle this one. Tune in at 11:35 p.m. on ABC, KOMO 4 around these parts.
Report On Attorney Generals Debate
The Seattle Times and City Club sponsored yesterday's debate between Rob McKenna and John Ladenburg, which was hosted at Seattle University as part of the school's Social Justice Week program. Times crack reporter Bob Young reports on how it all went down. We'll cut straight to the important part: neither are for legalization of marijuana, and in fact McKenna wants to reclassify pot as a "more serious drug" thanks to BC growers' potent strains.

Though we know you're just finishing up reading the transcripts from yesterday's Reichert vs. Burner debate, it's already time for another Washington State debate. Tonight, Governor Christine Gregoire and Dino Rossi will meet in Spokane for the fourth debate in the hotly contested gubernatorial race. It's the second to last meeting for the candidates before the general election on November 4th. The final debate will be held between Gregoire and Rossi next Wednesday in Seattle. With the way things are going, maybe this go-around can be won by a margin of at least 200 votes.
Washington Voters Finally Get a Debate Right
Washington State voters have been polled up the wazoo by SurveyUSA after each debate this campaign season. And while they turned in a win (within the margin of error) for McCain in the first Presidential debate, and a split decision (later amended to a slight win for Biden) in the Vice Presidential debate, this time around, the Washington State sample polled clearly thought that Obama won the second presidential debate.
Seattle Weekly: Proud to Be Ignorant
Since no one reads the Weekly's blogs, we figured the post where Chris Kornelis pulls for Sarah Palin in tonight's debate might have passed under the radar.
Washington Voters Say McCain Won First Debate
According to SurveyUSA (actually one of the best pollsters in the business), Washington voters thought John McCain performed better in last night's first Presidential debate.
Stalk Of The Town
Kim is relieved the debate is actually going to happen. She'll be watching with friends tonight before working all weekend. Saturday, she'll take a break for a quiet night out, and then she'll close the weekend off getting funky in the balcony of Jazz Alley with Maceo.
Debate Date Set in Governor's Race
Ali versus Frasier, Coke vs. Pepsi, Good vs. Evil, Gregoire vs. Rossi: the opposing sides in the great battles of our time. The latter, Gregoire vs. Rossi, is all geared up for an ugly rematch set to unfold this November. The candidates have announced that a duel err, debate will be taking place on October 1st in Yakima. The sure to be scintilatting, or at least mud-slinging, discussion will be shown statewide on PBS stations.
