The NBA draft begins at 4pm today. UW star Brandon Roy will be a top ten pick (some say he should be #1), and teammate Bobby Jones is a likely second-rounder. With their ascension to the NBA, we must wave farewell to a special era of Husky basketball. As always when leading up to a big playoff game, the local papers are filled with human interest fluff. At the Times, exclusively fluff. Like "Veterans get Hawks in playoff mindset" and "Seahawks battling history as well as Washington." At the P-I, and on some internet sites, a few pieces of actual game analysis managed to sneak past the editors. --Right tackle Sean Locklear has a sore hip, but linebacker D.D. Befuddled Bob Weiss, whose sideline body language reminded us of overwhelmed Husky coach Keith Gilbertson, is gone, replaced by Bob Hill. Hill's last team, the 2002-03 Fordham University Rams, posted a 2-26 record (though they did nearly knock off then #25 Dayton). Hill is a safe and underwhelming choice--just like Weiss was. Times columnist Steve Kelley rips Sonic president Wally Walker a new one here. Times reporter Percy Allen asks "Who is Bob Hill?" here.......
