Lots to do this weekend, including playing rec-room games with some very experienced folks, sketching figure eights in ice, meeting new people, and listening to marimbas along the Sammamish.
Can't Miss It: The Weekend
It's Last Laugh for Lo-Ball
Take note: tomorrow night will be the last Lo-Ball--the Local Ballard Comedy show--bringing the show’s four-year run to an end. Over the years the late-night fringe theater mash-up has hopped to various venues, originating in a Ballard tea house, surviving a brief stint outdoors in Bergen Place Park, and finally moving into the Live Girls Theater in 2008. But with Live Girls’ decision not to renew the lease on their Market Street theater space, Lo-Ball co-producers Jessica Strauss and Paul Merrill figured it was time to bring the show to a close. "We've been doing Lo-Ball, in one form or another, for four years," says Merrill. "That's a pretty good run for a no-budget comedy show. Also, it's a great excuse to throw a party."
You Get a Car! And You Get a Car!
Or at least Dartanion London got a car. The local comedian (Jet City Improv, Dart-Mondo) made a self-admittedly "dumb video" and was selected by Ford to win their Fiesta, a fuel-efficient small car that goes on sale in the States next year (it's already in Europe, natch). But this is more than merely having a car, this is a bona fide em-effing MOVEMENT, at least according to Ford.
