Well, this isn't exactly how this was supposed to go. The all-powerful UW softball team was supposed to go to Oklahoma City, tear up some other teams, and come back to Seattle with the national championship trophy for the second straight year because that shit is ours. Not so fast.
Huskies Softball Season May Not End Well
Return of Lingerie Football Rounds Out Decent Sports Tuesday
Tuesday, the Mariners’ bats awoke for a solid 7-1 win over the Minnesota Twins. Nice work, gentlemen. But yesterday belonged to the ladies.
How Not To Celebrate Winning, and Other Weekend Sports Notes
Well, the long weekend is over, and incase you missed any of the local sports action nursing burns from the sun or an ill-fated barbecue, here’s a quick recap
Seattle Sports Stuck In Inescapable Time Loop
This weekend, the Sounders lost at home again, and so did the Mariners. The UW softball team continued to be awesome. This trio of plotlines has repeated itself enough that it’s starting to feel like that movie Groundhog Day. As we see it, the only way out of this endless cycle is for Bill Murray to sleep with Andie MacDowell, at which time it will become February 3, 1993, and we will be forced to relive puberty.
On Montlake, A Ray of Sun in a Troubled Sports World
We know that in general it's hard to be a Seattle sports fan, and the past few days have been a particularly rough patch in a perpetually dejected, "We'll get 'em next time" sort of existence.
In Which We Discuss the UW, and the Horrible Idea of an MLS Strike
The NCAA Selection Committee, who'll pick the 65-team bracket Sunday, can be a bitch if they're not sufficiently impressed, kind of like the girl in biology class who snubbed us for that taller upperclassman before Sadie Hawkins. (We're not still bitter.)
The good news is the Huskies took a step towards an invitation last night, coming from behind to beat Oregon State 59-52 in the quarterfinals of the Pac-10 Tournament.
Husky Softballers Are National Champs
Highlights above of Washington's 3-2 victory in game two of the Women's College World Series, giving them a sweep of Florida for the championship. It's the first national championship for Husky softball, the fifth overall NCAA title for the school.
Washington 8, Florida 0
The University of Washington women's softballers are one win away from a national championship after spanking Florida tonight. Sorry to compare Husky softball to Mariner baseball, but this game reminded us so much of the Mariners' 1995 one-game divisional playoff win, we have to mention it.
UDub Looks to Gator Done
The University of Washington softball team, led by known Canadian Danielle Lawrie, will face the perennial NCAA Champions in everything University of Florida Gators in a best two-out-of-three series starting tonight.
Yesterday the Huskies beat Georgia on the second try, and the Gators beat Alabama on a walk off grand slam, holy crap.
