It's hard to believe, but the Dandy Warhols' sixth studio full-length (and the first on their own label) Earth To The Dandy Warhols will be out this August. The tongue-in-cheek Portland alt-rock band plays the Showbox SoDo tonight. Not sure if it would be a better or worse show if longtime frenemies Brian Jonestown Massacre crashed the gig.

, and though we didn't exactly rush out and buy his record, it was a good scene.

The glorious fall sunsets have disappeared along with the mouldering husks of Halloween pumpkins, and according the weather report, we can all expect a long, cold, wet weekend. But this being the Northwest, that's never stopped us from getting out and about; here's the weekend plans of your intrepid Seattlest contributors:

We've already mentioned this weekend's Pyramid Alehouse Snowed In Party, featuring the Presidents of the USA (tonight) and the Dandy Warhols (tomorrow). Tonight, there's also Black Dice bringing their wall o' noise to the Vera Project.

This Friday and Saturday, for the eleventh year running, the Pyramid Alehouse will host the "Get Snowed In Party" in celebration of Pyramid's flagship winter ale, Snow Cap.

Last year's Sasquatch line up was good, but not good enough to get us to spend three days at the Gorge. We still prefer the festival in its one-day, all-in-one-fell-swoop form, but with the lineup that's been announced for this year's two-day fest, we may just have to make the trip. Out of the two days, it was Saturday that really made us coo. Bjork *and* Arcade Fire? Consider us sold. There are still bands to be announced, but here's how things stand as of right now:

Tuesday, January 9

The Tyde/Brian Jonestown Massacre/Dandy Warhols show Friday night was amazingly incident-free. Seattlest, like others in attendance, was there as much for the potential carnage resulting from the BJM/DW rivalry and BJM lead singer Anton Newcombe's instability as the music, so while there was nothing to report in the way of shenanigans, the music made the evening more than worthwhile.

Tonight Uniting Souls is throwing their first show at Neumos. Seattlest is excited about that, since it marks a pleasant departure from Trinity, which on weekends represents one of the milder circles of hell with the bridge and tunnel crowd seemingly out to do little more than bump into us and step on our shoes. Trinity made for a pretty big barrier for many, including Seattlest, so we're happy to see Uniting Souls back on the Hill.

Yeah, we know you just spent all weekend at Bumbershoot. Is the wee little baby tired? Can't handle any more music? Ah, look at that poodum...

There are many that show unlimited disdain for the corporate adoption of a subculture for marketing purposes. A more pragmatic approach allows one to take advantage of these corporate activities while keeping awareness of the marketing at work. There are definitely cases where a coporation can show respect for their inspiration, just as there are cases where they don't.
