Food Frenzy: Alinea's Achatz, 826 Fundraiser, Cupcakes & Farmers Market Navigating
It's almost impossible to keep a pulse on the plethora of food related events and happenings in Seattle. Seattlest weeds through the multitude of options and brings YOU the cream of the crop in our weekly column, Food Frenzy. We've got the beat on special restaurant events, booze-related happenings, cooking classes and basically anything food-related because what's not love about eating and drinking in our city?
Ice Cream (and the Like) is the New Cupcake
A few years ago, neighborhood ice cream places like Wally's and The Mix started falling off the map and the situation became one of going to Cold Stone or Haagen Dazs, or going ice cream-less. Then Molly Moon's opened in Wallingford and people flocked to it. Then another one opened on Capitol Hill and everyone acted like they'd never had a scoop of damn iced cream before, lining up down the block for the salted caramel (too true to its name) or balsamic strawberry (pretty good).

Reality Bites
You're walking down the street, maybe hitting the ATM to see if there's any cash left, when you spot a small pink cupcake with a little flag that says, "The economy is going to be OK." It's not a dream, it's the magic of Seattle blogger Cakespy, who in recent weeks has sweetened our streets (and No Parking signs, and ash trays) with ersatz cupcakes bearing upbeat affirmations. Call us old and sentimental. We are. We know this twee whimsy does nothing but make people smile.
Frosting to Please Any Cupcake Lover
Birthdays, anniversaries, promotions, and celebrations alike have at least one cool thing in common: cake. In this instance, it’s cupcakes. Recently, we celebrated a birthday, and the cupcakes (specifically the frosting) were too good not to share them with you! Our sister-in-law, the pastry chef extraordinaire, was the mastermind behind the dessert. She concocted the frosting and was willing to let everyone in on her secrets. She knows how to play with a recipe to make it just right. Make this frosting at the next social gathering, and you might find yourself on the Martha Stewart Show too!
