Well, cheaper than it was at its all-time high earlier this month. AAA says the average cost of a gallon of gas in Washington dropped by 12 cents since July 6th. While that sounds great on the surface, don't get too excited...even the cheaper gallon of gas in Washington costs 27 cents more than the national average. The most expensive gallon of gas in Washington can be found in Bellingham ($4.27 per gallon), while the cheapest fill-up is in Vancouver ($4.13 a gallon).

Everything! We wrote that to be glib, but then realized it's painfully true. Every day that passes, the prices seem to rise on everything imaginable—from groceries to gasoline. The cost is only going up. At midnight tonight, when a slew of new Washington laws go into effect, we can add several new items to the "more expensive than ever before" list.

While it is no angry doctor with a tire-iron, we expect to see a lot more reports like this in the coming months and years. From the Seattle P-I: "Woman responds to expensive gas with her fists."

With the ever-increasing cost of gas, the Seattle P-I seems to have taken an extra keen interest in public transit. A quick perusal of the local news on the P-I's site found more stories about taking the bus than any other topic in the local news. It sounds like an exaggeration, but these were all headlines for different stories, from the same day.
