ConWorks has been bringing some interesting acts into their renovated lobby/stage space. The diversity in the inaugural lineup is nothing short of impressive, ranging from jazz to electronic music, from those with followings to the more obscure. The primary issue thus far has seemed to stem from a strong lack of promotion. Perhaps the art crowd is in the know, but knowledge of this set of events has yet to really percolate into the public. ConWorks, if you're listening, get to work on that.

Seattlest made it to the opening night of the new Negativland show at Consolidated Works Friday, February 17th. The email invite promised "wine and hors d'oeuvres," but all we could find were these tiny nut bowls of asian cracker mix with wasabi peas (yuck), and the wine was sparkling white (blech), but it was free so who's complaining?

We are officially in the holiday slump as far as shows go. That's hardly the worst thing in the world, since it's good to finally get a chance to rest after all of the madness of the Red Bull Music Academy. A month of consistently great music is enough wear down even the biggest of diehards. So it's time to take it a little bit easier, and to deal with all of the Christmahanukwanzadan festivities and year-end contemplation.

Apparently the annual Wacky Santa Festival, whereby legions of rowdy and rambunctious impersonators of Saint Nick spread hysteria and yule around town, will commence tomorrow for the enjoyment of Seattle's children and families:

Seattlest has been trying to make it to Conworks's "Ergonomicon" since it opened in February, but so far our "built environment" at home has been too inviting. This weekend, we promise, we're going. The exhibition explores design and the built environment as it relates to the human form, and is said to do so very successfully by Seattlest's friends and also reliable sources like The Stranger and the PI.
