Free Stuff! No, Really!

Last weekend Confounded Books closed its doors for good, and this weekend the rest of the comic industry is doing its best to ensure it doesn't encounter the same fate. Saturday is Free Comic Book Day, organized as a celebration of the history of the comic form, but really a smart attempt to get new feet heading to comic book shops. There's no catch. Walk in and get a free comic book. It's a great idea and one that we fully support, since it combines two things Seattlest loves: free and stuff. A Brief History of Confounded

As reported on the slog earlier, eclectic zine/book/underground comix shop Confounded Books will be closing forever Saturday April 29th, with shared retail-mate Wall of Sound expanding to take up the soon to be vacated space. In its seven year history, Confounded has changed ownership once and moved twice, from Fremont, to Belltown and then finally to Capitol Hill. Ink, Sweat and/or Tears Saturday Night

While Seattlest is familiar with the work of Bay Area cartoonists Eric Drooker and Keith Knight, we have to admit to a less than intimate familiarity with Flashbacks and Premonitions author Jon Longhi, an alleged "urban humorist." This California threesome will stage the Seattle leg of their "Ink, Sweat & Tears" cartoon concert and book tour this Saturday at 7pm in Capitol Hill at Confounded Books, with local cartoonist and Stranger regular Ellen Forney making a special appearance. more ›
