Alternative energy in the Pacific Northwest can mean biodiesel, ethanol, nuclear, hydro-electric, pedal power or a sticker on the back of your Volvo complaining about the war, but rarely do we hear much about wind farms. You’ve seen the photographs of wind farms and they always look really cool in a kind of sterile future-topia way and you get how they work: Wind turns windmill, windmill turns turbine = electricity that doesn’t require unsavory political relationships or ass raping the earth. One super-cool thing about being a teacher is that so often you actually learn from your students! Recently, for example, a Bellevue Community College math instructor learned that maybe it’s not OK to use test questions that involve “Condoleeza” and “watermelon”.

The perpetrator of this weekend's tragedy on the Hill is Kyle Huff, 28, of North Seattle, originally Montana, according to Seattle Police. Huff (pictured) had a twin and attended the Art Insitute of Seattle and North Seattle Community College. He delivered pizzas. He was at the "Better Off Undead" party at CHAC until early in the morning when he went to an afterparty at 2112 E. Republican St. He was there for less than an hour before he went out to his pickup truck and picked up a shotgun, a handgun and an ammunition belt. On the way back in to the party he spraypainted "NOW" (?) on the sidewalks outside and then he shot two people on the porch. This is reported everywhere, obviously, because he continued into the house and ended up killing seven, including himself at 7:05am after being confronted by a police officer.

Bainbridge and #8-ranked O’Dea (the two-time defending state champs) play a winner-to-state, loser-out game tonight. The outcome will likely hinge on this: can O’Dea’s Jamelle McMillan (son of Nate) stop Bainbridge’s Steven Gray.

With SketchFest Seattle chugging into its final weekend, we had a sit-down with Dusty Warren. Seattlest figured he'd be a good guy to talk to, as he's been performing sketch comedy in Seattle since 2000 and is a member of two groups performing this weekend. First there's Flaming Box of Stuff---they just returned from New York where they were a part of a HBO showcase at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre---and then there's the two-man group Champagne.

Thanks to all of the social in-justice in the world residents of Berkeley have many things to talk about. In fact there is nothing they love more then trying to one up each other with tales of misery and woe from around the globe.

Another Day in Baghdad, a play written by Iraq War veteran and playwright David A. Tucker II, opens tomorrow night, February 11th, at Stage One theater on the campus of North Seattle Community College. BTW, tickets are $what-you-can-pay.
