We Interview: Drew Emmitt Ahead of His Show Friday at the Tractor

Seattlest is most familiar with Drew Emmitt through his time with the fabulous bluegrass group Leftover Salmon. Now Emmitt's coming to town with his own band (named, aptly, the Drew Emmitt Band) and will be helped by openers the Hackensaw Boys. If you haven't caught the Hackensaw Boys, their live show is a raging good time. They're the definition of high-powered, high-speed punk-rock bluegrass and, before you know it, you, too, will be hopping around the room like the big hick you are. more ›

Where Rodrigo y Gabriela Blow Our Mind

Where Rodrigo y Gabriela Blow Our Mind

Seattlest has been making some semblance of a living writing about music for a few years now. During that time, we've tried to put into words performances by some truly great artists (Chris Thile comes to mind), and it never gets easier to verbalize music. We were completely prepared to be blown away by young prodigies like Chris Thile and the Infamous Stringdusters. We were expecting the brilliant presence of artists like Darrell Scott and Doyle Lawson. What shocked the hell out of us was Mike Marshall and Hamilton de Holanda. more ›

Get Out

Get Out

MUSIC: Tim O'Brien, Jerry Douglas, Chris Thile & How to Grow a Band, Darrel Scott Band, Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver, Uncle Earl, and many more at Wintergrass. Wintergrass is one of the biggest bluegrass festivals in the country, and this is one of the best line-ups they've had in some time. It's worth it to go see all the bands, or just to hang out in the lobby and jam out all weekend for free. more ›

Bluegrass is Cool and Hottt This Weekend in Tacoma

Bluegrass is Cool and Hottt This Weekend in Tacoma

We used to be with the rest of our snobby generation: thinking bluegrass festivals were for our grandparents, sitting on their lawn chairs with their farmer tans blaring and their bad old-people dancing. But no more, nosirree. Not when there are hotties like the Infamous Stringdusters, the Greencards, and Chris Thile pouring into Tacoma, of all godforsaken places, this weekend for Wintergrass more ›
