We Survived Lunch at Fort Westlake the Bronx
After all, the Seattle P-I's got a story on the recent street violence, the Seattle Times has coverage of the war zone and the thug factor. And although three of the four incidents since June occurred after 10pm, it's easily worth the $500,000 the city will spend over the next four months to keep lunch hour safe in Westlake Park. We were there, and we've never felt more secure -- which was great because we couldn't find any bike racks in front of Westlake Mall and had to lock our bike to a trash can.
Police Chief Accused of Something
Alright, it's probably time to start paying attention. This is the story of the guy in the wheel chair that the bicycle cops arrested on drug charges that you've probably seen on the news, or, if you haven't, you will soon. The arrest was videotaped and the tape fails to show the arrest as it was depicted by the officers in their report. You can watch it here, or if that doesn't work it's linked from the Times' website. A forensic video analyst has submitted a report on his examination of the video and the police report and he's calling bullshit on the SPD. Didn't happen like that, he says of the police report. The police report claims that a rock was found in his lap and that that's why they stopped him in the first place. The video analyst's report says they don't appear to have found anything in his lap and they roughed him up a bit with some unnecessary clamp holds.
Another Officer Killed in the Line of Driving
All that traffic in Queen Anne this morning is because Elliott Avenue is closed, and Elliott Avenue is closed because some late dumbshit stole a car, sped through a red light without his lights on, and broadsided a recently hired Seattle cop on her way to work, killing her. From the P-I:
Great Weekend For Outdoor Activities, Shootings
With clear blue skies and temperatures in the mid-to-upper sixties it was beautiful weather for parking it for an afternoon or hitting the bike trail this weekend. Maybe you pulled the tarp off the boat, maybe you dug a frisbee or a tennis raquet out of the closet, maybe you shot a bunch of people: You really can't go wrong with weather like this.
Rick's Investigation Bagged
We reported that members of the Seattle Police Department were under internal and FBI investigation concerning their relationships with various city night clubs, including Rick's topless club. The relationships were said to be potentially problematic because similar romances in the past had come to a bad end for the SPD, but in this case the officers under investigation will not be charged by federal or state prosecutors.
