Right on the heels of Linda's 15th birthday earlier this week is "Awesome"'s 5th birthday celebration, tonight at the Tractor. Yes, it was but five years ago this month that the talented comedy-art-pop septet played their first show at the Rendezvous' Jewelbox Theatre. That was 2004, a time of great strife and war; now it's 2009, and there's still great strife and war, but also hoverboards and robots and aliens to truth-melt your face off. It's called progress, people. So tonight is the night and the Tractor is the place to catch one of our most favorite local bands, along with openers We are Golden and Central Services. It's only $10 for the 9:30 p.m. 21+ show.
Happy Birthday, Dear "Awesome"
Get Out Tonight: Carrie Clark, Nathan Wade and Conrad Ford at the Sunset
Tonight, she'll be filling the slot between Conrad Ford and Nathan Wade & The Dark Pioneers. If you already have other plans, that's okay, we won't judge you. But clear your calendar for next Friday, when Clark and company will join Wade and a ton of other great bands and singer/songwriters for a Tom Waits tribute at Conor Byrne.
Weekend Music
The Georgetown Music Fest is the main game in town this weekend and if you're looking to see local music on Saturday or Sunday you'll almost certainly be there at some point. Or you can head back to the Gorge for John Mayer and Ben Folds. Your call. We'll be in Georgetown, and we're specifically looking forward to Voyager One's Saturday night set:
Weekend (Rock) Music
Atlas Clothing at the corner of Pike and Broadway has been having a lot of success with their all-ages music shows recently so they're stepping up to two nights a week. Tonight are the Young Sportsman and tomorrow is Central Services and Shorthand for Epic. If you've been to Atlas for the clothes but not the music and are wondering how it's set up, it looks something like this. Here's the Young Sportsman from last year sounding very GBV:
Second OnHold Podcast Out
As far as we can tell the second installment of the city's super cool OnHold program went into rotation over the weekend. No, we haven't spent the last two days on hold with city hall, but it appeared in our RSS sometime over the weekend so we're assuming it's new. You remember OnHold, right? It's a playlist composed of various Seattle-based musicians that you hear if you're on hold with the city or if you're a big geek and you download the thing and put it on your ipod like Seattlest. Then if you buy music from the playlist a portion of the proceeds goes to the city Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs.
