Once upon a time Seattlest considered North Aurora to be a shithole, to be avoided at all costs. But, eventually, we had to go to Home Depot and a used car lot, and that car rack store, and (doh) the unemployment office, and the movie theater, and IHOP and the European deli and Computer Stop and Chubby & Tubby (so far not Stupid Prices, though) and Kmart, Burgermaster, the cemetery and a hundred other tiny places the memories of which have congealed into one big impression of Aurora Avenue North. Now we consider it one of the most organic, vibrant and honest places in the city.
Some guy who decided Halloween was just too fun to be only one day a year got a heavy dose of ironic justice yesterday:
A Puyallup man who posed as a decorated Marine Corps captain for two years will tend graves at the Tahoma Military Cemetery in Kent as part of 500 hours of community service, a federal judge has decided.Continue reading "Ironic Justice For Puyallup Man"
Just when the CHS blog was getting antsy, our friend Bosco emailed us with the date in question: Smith is set to open Tuesday, June 19. And not a moment too soon. We've been doing the Mervyn's lady "Open Open Open" chant for weeks now. For those of you not familiar, Smith is the newest watering hole from Linda Derschang, goddess of the Seattle-friendly hotspot.
Seattlest finally got out to see a performance of Line One at the CHAC on Friday. The premise of Line One is that the actors on stage are all wearing Bluetooth cell phone earpieces - Different people call the show and are patched through to various actors' cell phones and the actors repeat what they say. The theme is different for each performance's phone calls, and part of the reason we took so long to get to a show is that we were waiting until the "Meet Me At The Mall" night. However, we screwed it up and went on Friday which was spooky and supernatural Friday the 13th night and had nothing to do with the mall. Meet Me At The Mall was Thursday night.
Vodka Lemon opened its run at Central Cinema last night and Seattlest was there because, after a forceful interior discussion, we couldn't recall ever having seen an Armenian film. Certainly not lately. Vodka Lemon was shown in Seattle for the 2004 SIFF, but since we usually stall out by the third page of the catalog, this was news to us.
-How many more "kid stumbles on human remains" stories is it going to take to get the whole area declared a cemetery? Is it just us or have there been a ton of these lately?
