That's our resolution for 2009, and it looks as if the band is more than happy to oblige. So if you missed their NYE event at the Rendezvous, our dear friends in "Awesome" have another show tomorrow night. At this rate, they should play well over a hundred shows this year, and we vow to hold them to that schedule. This time around, the perpetually suit-clad comedy-art septet have a headlining set at Neumo's, along with openers Carrie Akre, Carrie Clark and the Lonesome Lovers, and the Memphis Radio Kings. Doors are at 8 p.m., and tix to the 21+ show are only $10. Here's to hoping everyone has recovered enough from Wednesday night to head out this weekend.

With everyone still nursing their post-NYE hangover, there's not much going on this weekend in terms of live music. In fact, your best venue bet for the foreseeable future is Chop Suey. Head there tonight to help Unscrew the Croc Employees with a all-local lineup including Coconut Coolouts, The Intelligence, The Girls, and Das Llamas.
Last we talked with Carrie Akre, she was gearing up for the release of her latest CD, Last the Evening. Now, a couple of months later, the CD is officially out, and Akre is buzzing from the aftermath. Indeed, most of us music critic types have had nice things to say about the disc, which showcases her exuberant, imagery-laden lyrics and alt.country sensibilities, and shows off the great musicianship of her backup players. We...
The best bet for tonight is the group effort/solo project Broken Social Scene presents Kevin Drew at the Moore. If you aren't familiar with the Canadian indie supergroup, get to learning.
This is a big weekend due to the Esurance® Capitol Hill Block Party alone. Tickets are not sold out yet; if nothing else, just by 'em at the door. But what to do if you want to avoid the Hill and the confluence of all those hipsters?
Another copious serving of live tunes (not to mention opportunities to leave your smelly apartment), courtesy of Seattlest. You can thank us later.
SIFF runs a tight ship. Even though their Face the Music party at Neumo's last night had a bajillion bands on the bill---all of whom were doing ~20 minute sets chockful of covers, as a tribute to musicians featured in films at the festival--- somehow they were actually running ahead of schedule. How often does that happen at a regular rock show, let alone one with eleven musical acts? Somebody must've been cracking the whip. Truly, this slavedriver should be commended.
The final full week of SIFF is upon us. It's time to get some last few films before the sun sets on this year's fest. This week's got a couple great music events as well: Friday night, Portastatic will be on hand to perform a specially-commissioned live score accompanying circus freakshow-themed silent film The Unknown (more about that in a few days).
