Can't Miss It: Weekend Edition, Jan. 30-Feb. 1

STRONG, WILY OL'D MAN: My! Oldominion, a legendary and superdope Northwest hiphop collective boasting members who happen to be some of our area's strongest and most creative artists, certainly has aged well. The group turns ten years old this year, and to celebrate, they're throwing a family reunion/party/show combo at Neumos this weekend. On the bill: The Saturday Knights, Grayskul, and assorted extremely important members of the crew. We're just saying, Oldominion knows how to party.

Another Sports GM Who Reminds Us of Bush

Seahawks GM Tim Ruskell didn’t speak to the media all season. We can’t blame him; if we failed three times more than we won we’d keep a low profile as well.

As we were ducking out of yet another Garfield blowout loss to Franklin, we joked to our friends, "What if the Huskies and Seahawks lose too! That would sure suck."

M's lefty reliever George Sherrill got shredded by Cubs hitters today in a brief relief appearance. Not only did he give up three runs, including a broken bat homer by Aramis Ramirez, even his outs were line drives. Sherrill's spring ERA is 13.00, opponents are hitting .452 against him. We've only seen him pitch this once, but this isn't a case of bad luck--he's legitimately tossing batting practice out there.

The Mariners' player payroll will top $100 million in 2007. $111 million, to be more precise, an $18 million increase over last year.

When Dennis Green's Cardinals beat San Francisco on Sunday it gave the Seahawks the NFC West title, and with it a back door entrance into the playoffs.

Since day one we've said that being a Seattle sports fan is like sneaking up behind Kicky the Paranoid Mule. The past week has reminded us of this all too well.

The Mariners experienced baseball's happiest moment last night, a game winning walk-off home run.

The game isn't good enough anymore. It's not good enough that on Sunday, in Maryland, 90 of the best athletes on the planet, guys who were the best player in the history of their high school, guys who if you tried to tackle them would run through you like you were a notion, guys who can run faster and jump higher and lift more than anyone you've ever known, will recklessly bash into each other in order to win a football game.

The cardinals in Rome have let the white smoke fly and announced the new head of the Catholic Church today. The flock didn't have long to wait to find out whether the new pope would come in the form of a healer or a hard-ass, and the word is that he's a hard-ass dressed up as a healer.

Sounding more like a person leaving an unsatifying relationship than a football player joining a new team, former Seahawks DE Chike Okeafor specified why he chose to sign with the Arizona Cardinals in a press conference quoted in Thursday's P-I. "Over there (in Seattle) on a day-to-day basis I felt alone, not surrounded by enough people that thought like me, felt like me, played like me on a day-to-day basis and love the game like me. So I was in search of that from my teammates, and I felt that here."
