It's been six months since the sailors of the U.S.S. John C. Stennis, a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier have been back in their home port of Bremerton. This morning, the ship--which measures the length of three football fields--arrived with more than 3,000 sailors trying to escape to the bar on board. We expect tonight's Bremerton to Seattle ferry route at 7:55 p.m., 9 p.m., and 11:40 p.m. will more than likely be filled with sailors heading to the big city, recouping their past six months in a weekend's time. The Puget Sound Naval Shipyard over in Bremerton said goodbye to a dear old broken-down friend yesterday, as they officially decommissioned the 1,100-ft. aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk. The 48-year-old carrier has been the Navy's oldest active (and run down) warship since 1998, known--mainly by sailors--for its talent at breaking down and leaving many stranded, hence the name "Shitty" Kitty. As the Navy's last diesel-fueled aircraft carrier, it had been stationed in Japan (they tend to frown upon nuclear-powered anything near their shores) over the past decade. The decommissioned USS Kitty Hawk will now join the other retired aircraft carriers in Bremerton's shipyard and hope for a chance at museum glory. more ›

• The Mayor of Bellevue Bremerton, Cary Bozeman has given up running cities that begin with the letter B. Today he announced he will be stepping down June 8, to become the CEO of the Port of Bremerton.
• We don't think the zoo's endangered red crown cranes ever got the talk about themselves (i.e., birds) and the bees, as little puff-ball chicks have begun hatching.
