With the eyes of the cycling world focused on the mountains of southern France, why would one of the best-known names in the sport be in Seattle today? Well, if you've been kicked out of cycling's top event because of your shady past and you describe your own team as "having come to symbolize cycling's doping scandal," the only obvious solution is to deny everything and go on a book tour.

Crispin Glover Brings the Crazy to Broadway Performance Hall
Last night, a besuited Crispin Hellion Glover took the stage at Broadway Performance Hall with the perfunctory greeting: "Good evening. Presently, I will read to you from eight books." And he did.
Amanda Ford Would Like A Kiss
A while ago we were looking for a picture of a mojito and in our search we ran into local author (and mojito photographer) Amanda Ford. She told us she had a book coming out and we said, Great, let us know when it's on the shelves and we'll interview you.
God Is Not Great
Christopher Hitchens filled Town Hall to overflowing last night to talk about his new book, . It was nearly standing room only. Seattlest was one of the last people to squeeze into the hall and find a seat. Apparently Seattle has a lot of atheists. Who knew?
Undercover at the Discovery Institute
Seattlest went undercover last night, attending a book launch party for The Politically Incorrect Guide to Darwinism and Intelligent Design by Dr. Jonathan Wells, senior fellow of the Discovery Institute. The party was held in the Rainier Square Atrium and was open to the public - when a press release announcing the event popped up on our Technorati watchlist for "book signing Seattle" last month we put it immediately on our calendar.
All The News
-Danny Westneat commits a felony in today's Seattle Times by talking about online gambling sites. PoP comments.
Liberal Bloggers Descend On Seattle
If you're a liberal, a Democrat, left-leaning, a new media person, an old media person, a fundraiser, a grassroots organizer, or a blogger or any combination of those you probably already know that some of the cool kids are in town this weekend and have plans to catch them in concert at least once. Markos Moulitsas Zuniga of Daily Kos and Jerome Armstrong of MyDD are going to be kicking around Seattle and the area starting today at the Seattle Labor Temple 2800 1st Ave, Hall 1. Like us, you probably have no idea what a labor temple is, but it sounds kind of Karl Marx/Mad Max cool.
Who Will Stop the Comic Artists?
We know we already trumpeted Pete Bagge and the comic artist group show at the Sessions Gallery, but comic artists are a deprived, media-hungry bunch who are always clawing their way in the spotlight—and we don’t want to anger them. That’s why we recommend you get your autograph pads and hustle down to Zanadu Comics (1923 3rd Ave.) this Wednesday, from 4-6 pm, for a book signing for the new comics anthology, Roadstrips.
Seattlest Interview: Kirsten Anderson, founder and owner of Roq La Rue Gallery
Let's say you're on an airplane, sitting next to someone completely unfamiliar with Pop Surrealism or Lowbrow, but who's curious about what you do. Without using any visual aids, how do you explain the movements to her -- in such a way that the Lowbrow fan sitting across the aisle learns something, too?
The Chin That Launched a Thousand Ships
Just like the Nick Hornby event a couple weeks ago, the UW bookstore is sponsoring another author reading at the Neptune tonight. This time it's beloved B-movie actor Bruce Campbell, who will be reading from his latest book (his first novel) Make Love the Bruce Campbell Way. He'll be signing copies of the book if and only if you buy it from the bookstore---this gets you a numbered ticket, which confers upon you a place in the author signing line. Buying a book is a small price to pay to spend some quality time with Mr. Campbell, especially since the last time he was in town for a UW book reading, he threw candy at the crowd and stayed late to sign a lotta books. He's a real peach. A lantern-jawed peach.
Live Radio
Fans of progressive radio will want to tune in this afternoon between 12 and 3pm (you're late) for the Ed Schultz Show broadcast from Town Hall. If you had known about the event earlier you could have bought tickets to see it live and helped benefit First Place, but you already dropped the ball on that.
