What can we say about Friday that hasn't been plastered on the 'net for the past couple days? How about we reiterate: "Holy crap!", "Wow!", "They're incredible!", "One of the best live shows in Seattle!" Yea, that about sums it up. To be fair, we didn't really mention Concours d'Elegance in our preview. That's mostly to suspend judgment until we'd actually heard them live. When you check out their music, you'll probably understand. Not only is there music very electronica-based, but they also have a killer light show integrated into their live act.

Pickwick and BOAT, A Killer Lineup at the Tractor Tonight
Tonight is a show full of bands that have been working their asses off in the Seattle music scene for years, but seem to have just begun hitting their stride. BOAT has been together since around 2005 and they've been in and out of the Seattle limelight over the last six years. We have been a fan of the band since their show a couple years ago at the Vera Project, when they headlined following a performance by Kay Kay and his Weathered Underground. You can imagine the two bands have very different audience,s and that night the concertgoers were about ninety-five percent Kay Kay fans. That just left more BOAT for the rest of us to enjoy, even when lead singer David Crane nearly tripped over the Christmas lights he wrapped around himself for funsies. Their 2010 Bumbershoot performance in the EMP shoved them back into the media spotlight as they played a killer show that impressed several Seattle music blogs. It seems they've earned a decent following in the city that has maintained throughout their six years of existence. It's time they were kicked up a notch and hopefully this show will start the ascent.
Bumbershoot: Best Bets and the Seattlest Schedule
As we do every year, this Seattlest has gone through the year's schedule and made the hard choices. We've selected the can't-miss acts and have made a point to provide options if you aren't able to see your first choice. Though we've heard about some changes that are designed to make comedy and theatre lines more bearable, we still recommend setting aside enough time to stand in line and encourage you not to be too heartbroken if things don't pan out exactly how you'd planned.
With Bumbershoot a mere 24 hours away, we give you our official schedule followed by five can't miss acts. Do yourself a favor and bookmark this post to reference while at the Center or print it off today, while you still have access to the office printer.

Bumbershoot: Top Ten Local Acts You've Got To See
We thought it would be a pretty easy project to sort through the Bumbershoot bill for the top ten local acts. Holy cow, were we wrong! There is an unbelievable list of local bands that you would love. Unfortunately, that would be entirely too work for one weekend. Instead, we took on the monumental task of whittling it down to ten. Understandably, it was pretty difficult. Below are Seattlest's picks for the entire weekend if you are looking for a local music overload. They're listed in order of appearance at the festival.
BOAT: A Best Bet at the Croc Tonight
Here at Seattlest, we’ve always been big fans of local purveyors of goofy indie rock, BOAT. With their latest album scheduled to be released on Magic Marker records on October 27, we’ve been delighted to see they’ve been added quite a few PacNW dates to their schedule.
KEXP BBQ and Other Fine Music Choices this Weekend
Lots of great live music possibilities this weekend!
Today in Marsh Island and Arboretum Wildlife
It was too nice a day to spend entirely indoors. (Not that we aren't going to the Ms game tonight, but--okay we were bored.) So we grabbed our camera and slogged across Marsh Island and beyond, past the youth groups, past the college kids sneaking Coors Light in the great outdoors. Montlake was humid and alive with summering wildlife.
Neighborhood News And Local Blog Round-Up
It's just about time for a music-themed blog round-up, so here we go. Here's what we listened to while we compiled this: Mazzy Star's "Fade Into You," Patty Griffin's "Rain," Edwyn Collins' "You'll Never Know," and The Thermals' "Returning To The Fold."
Can't Miss It: Thursday
"HISTORY IS ABOUT TO CRACK OPEN": Angels in America may be one of the most moving plays we've ever seen, and it's being reprised in Seattle for the second weekend in a row, before ending its run next week. The performance of the play's first part, "Millenium Approaches," is being performed by Absurd Reality Theatre at the Bagley Wright, in the small theater. May we suggest you head out to the theater and catch a showing? When you're done with Part One, you can always head to ReAct's production of Part Two: "Perestroika."
Get Out Saturday: The Long Winters at the Showbox
When John Roderick isn't writing hilarious lies about other musicians, he's fronting one of Seattle's best indie rock bands, The Long Winters.
Husband Charged with Assault by Watercraft
A Spokane man has been arrested for assault by watercraft, after he drunkenly ran over his wife with a boat during the holiday weekend. The woman's arm was severed below the elbow during the accident and rescuers were not able to recover her forearm because it sank. The woman was taken to a Spokane hospital and is expected to survive.
Snowcap Recap: Presidents of the USA + Boat
We've said it before. It's impossible not to have a good time at a Presidents show. Seriously. You can try all you want. You can stand in the corner, scowling at everyone and thinking of all your dead relatives, but once that toe starts tapping, it's all over. Soon you'll be smiling and before long you'll be rocking out along with everyone else. Such was the scene last Friday night at the Pyramid Alehouse Get...
