BLVD is—make that was—the urban contemporary younger sibling conjoined (they share a wall) with Roq La Rue, Seattle's pop surrealist institution. (Which is, thankfully, staying put.)

Scion's back in town bringing music, art, and culture to the kids. Sure it's subversive corporate lifestyle marketing to the coveted youth demographic, but we do like that it's free. Their art installation is at BLVD Gallery for a few more nights, while their film series is running once a month at the Harvard Exit. Somehow we missed the September film (Mayor of Sunset Strip), but we'll definitely be there tomorrow night for Bling: A Planet Rock.

MUSIC: Chicago's Kate Simko was last in town to play the Decibel Festival, where she wowed those in attendance with her lush, melodic techno. She's back in town to support her latest release for local boutique label Kupei, a collaboration under the Detalles alias.

MUSIC: Criminally underrated British singer-songwriter Jim Noir delivers his psych-pop twice tonight: first an acoustic set at Sonic Boom in Ballard, and then rocking out at the Croc as part of the Sub Pop/Barsuk Winter Celebration and Holiday Party Extravaganza.

A few weeks ago Seattlest mentioned the incredibly lackluster Scion:Installation exhibit at Roq La Rue. While the potential was high, the showing failed to resonate on an artistic level. Standing in stark contrast to that show is Roq La Rue's latest offering, "Sweetest Taboo." It hits the notes that Installation failed to, and provides an opportunity to see work from fifteen up-and-coming artists.
