FREE SHAAAAAAAAFT: you can't see the word and not sing it, can you? Because Isaac Hayes made it too awesome. Who's the cat that won't cop out? Shaft. Although Blue Moon Tavern's movie nights are usually on Tuesday, tonight they bring us Shaft and Black Dynamite, for a little special Monday joy.

The Columbia City Theater (CCT) is quickly becoming a favorite venue for up and coming bands and musicians. It has more than a little to do with knowledgeable employees and owners who seem to know the local indie scene inside and out. Tonight's show is a little bit of a mixed bag, which is a great draw for almost any music fan. Wild Orchid Children is a little bit Beastie Boys, a little bit alt-rock, and a lot of crazy. From what little we've had the opportunity to hear and see, the show should be interesting at least. We're holding back judgments on this one, it's kind of a toss up whether their live show will be good or not. Though, as I mentioned before, CCT tends not to disappoint. They've got some decent bands opening the evening for them with See Me River and Magic Mirrors. This is where the mixed bag comes in, because these two seem to be a bit more at home as Seattle indie rock, the latter a bit more on the harder rock side than the former.

We Wrote the Book on Connectors and Hobosexual are helping to throw a big ol' birthday bash at the Blue Moon Tavern. Matt Brown, one of the most devoted Seattle music fans you'll ever meet or see or hear for that matter, is getting a birthday party anyone would envy with WE, Hobosexual, Police Teeth, and The TG Project all rocking up a storm tonight in his honor. Show starts at 9pm and there's a Meat Raffle. Seriously! Prizes provided by Casper's BBQ, Smokin' Pete's, Uli's Famous Sausage, and Lunchbox Laboratory. What more could you want? Oh yea, the cover is only 5 bucks. You just can't go wrong.

Can't Miss It: Wednesday
'70S NOSTALGIA: Called "the perfect musical antiheroes for the Seventies” by the Rolling Stones, the not oft-toured band, Steely Dan, makes an appearance at the Chateau Ste. Michelle out in Woodinville. Drive out to the beautiful winery, have a glass, and remember the days in which people stood in line at the gas stations and screamed at each other, rather than simply paying through the nose for a full tank.
