Gallery: Blonde Redhead Brought It @ Showbox Wednesday

As expected, with their easy going African-influenced sound, Blonde Redhead brought a huge crowd despite the crappy weather. We got there a little too early and it turns out if it's cold outside, it's cold inside too unless a lot of people show up. For the sake of the bands and the concert-goers, I'm glad a lot of fans came out to warm the place up. Olof Arnalds, the opener, was adorable with a beautiful voice to match. She started out the show with a fur hat and wool coat on as the crowd was still sparse at that point. A heater and more fans showing up lead to her stripping some layers off as she went along. Despite the cold, it was a fantastic show with quite a light display put on by the headliner. For a few more photos head to the flickr collection. more ›

Blonde Redhead at the Showbox Wednesday

Blonde Redhead at the Showbox Wednesday

Blonde Redhead is a pair of Italian-born twins, Amedeo and Simone Pace, that now call New York home by way of Montreal and Boston. They, along with Kazu Makino, formed the band back in '93 with a rotating cast of bass players. Their music is softly-flowing melodic rock with electronic backing. The addition of Kazu's enchanting voice washes over you like a constant and rhythmic river of music. Over the years their sound has been pretty consistent so if you've been a fan in the past their new album, Penny Sparkle released in September, won't disappoint. Like their music, live performances are pretty subdued but beautiful in sound and visuals. We're looking forward to it. more ›

Seattle's Top Shows of November

Seattle's Top Shows of November

Let's be honest: November is a good month for the beginnings of shitty weather and holiday stress. We have few memories of this month yielding much in the way of excellent shows or substantial numbers of bands coming through our fair city. However, this year around, it's clear that the rock gods are on out side: November closely mirrors October in terms of a huge dose of amazing bands. Let's salute the coming dark months together with some of the month's most anticipated shows. more ›

Ticket Giveaway! Blonde Redhead, Annuals

This Saturday, New York indie-experimental band Blonde Redhead plays the Showbox in a sure-to-wow evening with alt-pop opening act Annuals. We're psyched for both acts, but we've been drooling over Blonde Redhead for quite some time now. They opened for Interpol back in November '05 but we arrived late and missed them completely. Woe was us. We'll be sure to get there early this Saturday. more ›

The Rapture Inspires a New Theory on Seattle Crowds

The Rapture Inspires a New Theory on Seattle Crowds

Seattlest has a new line of thinking on the stasis-problem exhibited by Seattle showgoers. Our new theory is that Seattle crowds aren't actually as lame as we once thought, they just have a lot of inertia. It takes a lot to get them going, but once they are, the new problem is getting them to stop. We thank The Rapture for giving us the inspiration for this new thinking, as Monday's performance and afterparty were truly eye-opening. more ›

Those Stylish Rockers

About a year ago, Seattlest was at a dinner party where we struck up a conversation with the attorney seated next to us. We chatted pleasantly for awhile and eventually we asked him where he worked. He replied that he worked for Interpol. We got very excited since their debut album Turn on the Bright Lights had us annoying our co-workers and fellow commuters for months with our attempts to sing along. We felt a little stupid when it turned out he worked for the real Interpol (International Criminal Police Organization), though in our defense we had been drinking. On Friday, catch our beloved Interpol at the Paramount when they come to rock the house with their oh-so stylish ways. more ›
