Seattle's Dr. Linehan Taking Questions on NYT's "Consults"

In the wake of the New York Times article on borderline personality disorder, "An Emotional Hair Trigger, Often Misread," in which she's quoted, Dr. Marsha M. Linehan, psychology professor and director of the Behavioral Research and Therapy Clinics at the UW, is answering readers’ questions on the NYT's "Consults" blog.

In our continuing quest to get other people to do our work for us, we're accepting reader submissions for Seattlest posts. Enter, and if we select your blog post, you'll win a pair of tickets to the Tuesday (April 14) show at the new Crocodile, starring Dr. Dog, The Cave Singers, and Golden Boots. The rules are these: Enter by posting a link to your blog post in the comments section of this post. You have until 5 p.m. Monday. Then we'll pick our favorite, and reprint your post on Seattlest next week. We're leaving the topic open--just make sure it relates to Seattle in some way. PS: Make sure you didn't give us your spam email in your profile, or we won't be able to tell you you won.

Hell no! They won't go! To a different school! Central District News documents school-closure protesters marching downtown. CHS is not a high school, but it sounds like one, and the cool kids there are talking about the hill's newest resto, The Tin Table. Over in SoDo, where things change faster than you can say Rocky Mountain News, new blog Sodo Agogo is going bye-bye already.

Pundits Save the P-I, Hypothetically Speaking

Probably the first question P-I staffers need to ask themselves is, How badly do they want it?

The eerily dusky orange skies never did stop dumping snow on our plans last night. Instead of screaming and ripping out our hair in a cabin-feverish craze, we clicked over to Raindrophustla, a dependable source for entertainment and strange, local-music-oriented Youtube videos, to see what the Hustlas could offer us in terms of musical distraction. The Seattle blog didn't let us down. A downloadable, punk-spirited, indie rock-rinsed, effin' wonderful mix, entitled "Snowed In," is available on Raindrop--you should immediately left click, save as, extract, and play in your favorite media player, for sanity's sake. The Thermals, Velella Vellela, Raphael Saadiq...yessss.

 • We knew we'd heard that name somewhere--Steve Almond, who wrote a lovely innocuous column for Martha Stewart Living about Christmas candy, is familiar to us through his at-times NSFW short story collections. Matthew at Roots & Grubs points out that he, too, can write about Christmas candy, and his bibliography is 99% safe and Martha-approved.
 • West Seattle Blog breaks out the snow talk! They're pointing everyone towards a community Christmas tree lighting, and as is the usual, WSB also has a scoop: the weatherman has a blog.
 • The school closure meetings have everyone in a tizzy about their neighborhood schools. Capitol Hill Seattle reports with relief on their beloved Lowell, which was removed from the closure list, and the commenters react with skepticism and challenging questions (like, what happened to all the rhetoric about Lowell's building falling apart?).

Faithful readers of these e-pages may remember one Geoff Kaiser, who covered the beer refreshment beat--that's his name on a sidebar in the newly diminished (three-section) Seattle P-I this morning: his review of Alaskan Smoked Porter makes us thirsty for campfires. "You can find it for about $5.99 per 22-ounce bottle, and it would pair perfectly with smoked cheeses and smoked salmon. Bottleworks in Wallingford often sells older vintages of this beer for a few dollars more." To stay posted on beer doings, get your RSS on over at Geoff's P-I blog, What's on Tap.

The CDN on CNN? The Central District News blog got a chance to describe Seattle and the neighborhood for CNN; it's a good read--almost as if Scott spent more time on this article than on a typical blog post. (We kid because we love!) Scott suggests a unique tour guide for the CD: "A good way to tour the neighborhood is to load up your iPod with Sir Mix-A-Lot's 'Posse on Broadway' and follow the streets as they're called out in the song. And don't forget to grab a box of delicious Ezell's Fried Chicken -- they say Oprah loves it!" Of course, he also gives pointers on the weather: "Some seasons are wetter than others around here. To guarantee a damp experience, your best bet would be to plan your travels for sometime in the narrow window between late October and the 4th of July."

So we may have found a new favorite website--last night, a friend pointed us to the seriously awesome image to the right, courtesy of Vintage Seattle, a high-resolution visual blog documenting Seattle history, a labor of love undertaken by one Jess Cliffe.

Yesterday we googled the phrase "best restaurant in Renton." (Don't ask.) It turned up this post on A Displaced Hipster's Guide to Renton, which gives the Melrose Grill top honors in Seattle's southern suburb. DH's mission statement: "Two years ago, my wife and I moved out of the city of Seattle to the lovely suburby city of Renton, Washington. We've learned to survive without great restaurants, nightlife, and entertainment--here's how we do it."
