Stalk Of The Town

MvB is going to get his pound of opening night hors d'oeuvres after seeing the The Merchant of Venice at the Seattle Shakespeare Company tonight. Saturday, if rainy, may involve an all-day LOTR-athon at a friend's in LQA.

One of our favorite bars in all of Seattle celebrates its second birthday today. The tiny, cozy, always friendly Bottleneck starts the party at 8 p.m. tonight with an hour of free champagne, which we could never turn down. At 9 they'll debut their new cocktail menu, with specials on Skyy vodka drinks and bloody marys all night. Since the traditional gift for a second anniversary is cotton, the bar will be giving away cotton t-shirts (and more) every 15 minutes until close from breweries and other local supporters like PBR, Georgetown Brewery, Skillet, Capitol Hill Seattle, and Babeland. Once again, Bottleneck, we raise our glass to thee.

Like anybody else, we appreciate the sentiment of the Presidents' Day long weekend--well, for those of us who have that day off or are able to take it. It provided us the perfect opportunity to temporarily ex-patriate ourselves and pump money into Canada's economy. That's what it's all aboot, anyway. This so-named Presidents' Day has become just a reason for the commercial sector to entice us with Fabulous Savings. Nobody thinks about Washington or Lincoln anymore, much less Millard Fillmore, say, or Grover Cleveland if we are to buy into this doubletalk about the inclusivity of the day. But--ZOMG--holy crap! Fry's has HDTVs on sale!

ART: Faire Gallery and Cafe hosts the opening of "Duet II," the second show featuring new mixed media works by Aaron and Jessixa Bagley. Using paper and ink, pen and watercolor, the Bagleys' collaboration includes bizarre portraiture and lots of paisley and polka dots. The exhibit's on display through April 20th.

Seattle will vote February 13th on whether to vote on whether to build a replacement Viaduct or a tunnel, the City Council announced today.

Forget Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man's Chest. The true blockbuster of the summer is Seattle Gilbert & Sullivan Society's Pirates of Penzance, playing at the Bagley Wright Theatre at Seattle Center.

Fresh from his quarter-hour of fame as a food blogger, Ronald is preparing a giant Spanish torta for a neighborhood party in Belltown. He plans to stalk chef Kerry Sear's cooking class at Cascadia on Saturday morning. On Sunday, he'll make is way into SoDo territory where wine writer/wine merchant Rich Kinssies promises to roast a pig and pour samples of Spanish reds at The Wine Outlet . We hope it goes well with the all the uneaten torta.

Will the beautiful weather stick around for our weekend? If it does, plans may change and you may see us prancing through various municipal parks. As of now, however, here's how the weekend's shaking out.

Seattlest would like to wish our loving parents at Gothamist the happiest of second birthdays. You guys are all grown up now and what with the kids and the mortgage maybe things seem like they're starting to slow down, but we know you have long and fruitful lives ahead of you.
