Atheist's Billboard Finally Gets Own Comment Section

At Denny and Stewart, there's a billboard with a faux stained glass look and churchy type that says "Imagine No Religion." It's been up for a month or two, and the Seattle Times just ran an interview with the guy who paid for it, Redmond's Mike Christensen. Christensen wanted to advertise the Freedom from Religion Foundation, a 12,000-member association of agnostics and atheists. Online, the Times solicits opinions about the godless billboard. Our favorite is "Mike Christensen should change his name to Mike Satansen." Second is the response to the hoary "atheists in foxholes" argument: "'There are no atheists in foxholes' isn’t an argument against atheism, it’s an argument against foxholes." more ›

Seattle to Portland: The "Uncle Sam" Billboard

Seattle to Portland: The "Uncle Sam" Billboard

After sitting around Centralia College as the heat soared towards ninety while David re-hydrated, we headed back to the car and hit I-5 for one of our last stops along the way to Portland. But just south of Centralia, we decided to make a quick stop to check out one of the sites that's always fascinated us—and nearly everyone else who takes I-5: the infamous "Uncle Sam" billboard. more ›

Sonics Fans First to Know Pearl Jam's Prepping New Album

So the Sonics won last night. Kevin Durant scored a bunch of points and stuff. The biggest highlight, though, came from the seats, when Pearl Jam bassist—and die hard Sonics fan—Jeff Ament donned a headset for a chat with announcer Kevin Calabro. more ›

Seattlest Trivia Wrapup: Our Throat Survived

Seventeen teams showed up at the Old Pequliar last night to see if our voice would give out. We managed to get through the evening without having a Peter Brady moment, but we're grateful to those of you who were willing to step up to the mic at a moment's notice. more ›

Elsewhere In The Ist-a-verse

Elsewhere In The Ist-a-verse

that we want to kill anyone and everyone that makes a "something on a something" joke. But then we realized that there was no way we could ever win this fight, and, hell, if you can't beat them, we might as well join them. And with that, you have the theme of this weeks' Gothamist network post. more ›

Punk Streisand

Punk Streisand

Sure, sure you're all punk rock and hope that the troops will pull out of Iraq. Well, we say good for you, but you're not nearly as punk rock as Barbra Streisand. That's right--Babs' new song, Stranger in a Strange Land is a lovely anti-war number you might want to check out. Despite the fact that the war in Iraq has not been going to0 well, few mass-appeal musicians have released any actual protest songs, so wear your 'Prince of Tides' shirt with pride cause 'Yentl' is taking on the man. more ›

Rock, Stars and Laptops

Our friend really loves the Ruby Doe, playing the Sunset Tavern tomorrow night. Our friend's two favorite bands of all time are Helmet and Soundgarden, so if you happen to share his opinion, you might want to stop on by. He also loves chicken wings and nachos, so you might want to grab a bite before the show. more ›
