Like we do every week, today, we've put together a list of what we consider some worthy events over the next seven days. What's on your food and drink to-do list?
Food Frenzy: Splendid Ice Cream, Boozy Brunch and Festive Celebrations
Food Frenzy: Garden Tours, Benefits and Food-Center Networking
Local chefs know how to throw a party, especially when it involves supporting causes near and dear to their hearts, so head on down to Rays and Dragonfish this week. Learn more about how to grow an urban garden at one of the hippest spots in Ballard. Plus an opportunity to meet what some jokingly call the food elite of Seattle at Foodportunity. We at Seattlest appreciate events to learn, meet new people and imbibe in a little food/drink.
TK Comes to Dinner
From time to time, our modest local temples of gastronomy are graced with a visit by one or another of the nation's culinary gods, who descend from Paris, New York, or California, their latest cookbooks in hand. Most recent sighting in Seattle: no less than TK himself, Thomas Keller, the country's most celebrated chef (French Laundry, Bouchon, per se, etc.). Elegant, self-assured, gracious, clad in white shirt, blazer, and designer jeans, swathed in a long red scarf, TK affixes his autograph on ad hoc at home, his latest tome, for a crowd of local chefs and foodies who've gathered at Bastille to pay proper homage to the master's six Michelin stars.
Storming Ballard's Bastille
There's a Place Balard (one "l") in southwest Paris, about 20 minutes from the Bastille, the one-time prison at the figurative center of the French Revolution. These days (a week ahead of Bastille Day) the Place de la Bastille is a hub of music and nightlife, much like Seattle's Ballard Avenue on these warm July nights. At the brand new Bastille Café & Bar, a bustling crew of 60 tends to the needs of swarming drinkers and diners. Owners James Weimann (Peso's, Triangle) and Deming Maclise (Caffè Fiorè) recruited industry veterans Shannon Galusha (Veil) to run the kitchen, James Lechner (Café Campagne) to run the dining room and Armin Moloudzadeh (Black Bottle) to run the bar.
